    Ron Sawicki Memorial/Celebration Ride
    Saturday, July 26 at 7:45am

Friends and family of Ron Sawicki:

Please join us on Saturday July 26 to celebrate Ron's life and passion for mountain biking.

We will start the group ride at Irvine Park and take an easy loop around Irvine Park and head into Santiago Oaks Regional Park for a dedication. For those that cannot participate in the ride portion, feel free to park near Anaheim Hills Elementary School and walk to the dedication point. See attached map for the walking route to the dedication location.

Details for the event are below:

    1. 7:45am: Riders to congregate at Irvine Park, Parking Lot 2/Group Area 4 (same location at the most recent Non-Dot Adventures Race).
    2. 8:00am: start group ride around Irvine Park and head into Santiago Oaks Regional Park. We will take the lower fire road towards the dam and head up Oak Trail (the "Bs") to the Upper Picnic Grounds (picnic bench/canopy near the rock outcropping at top of second "B")
    4. 9:00am (once riders arrive): meet up with Ron's family and hold dedication/memorial at the picnic grounds.
    5. 9:30am: memorial finished

We hope to see you all there.

Our thoughts will be with you, those riding, and those remembering Ron. Thank you for posting, I regret missing the ride, but I will never forget the Fred ride, one of the first group rides I attended, where Ron ended at the bottom of Lynx, sitting on his top-tube, with a giant weed sticking out of his helmet, straight up into the air. The rides never mattered- blood, sweat, or tears - laughs were always plentiful; that is what I will always remember.

Fred rides for you guys were no sweat, but for me, a beginner, sweat poured out readily. ;)

Parking lot #2. Enter the park, make your 1st left and follow it around to the second parking lot. It'll be on the right.

Thanks for posting up about the ride/memorial. I really needed to get out and do some climbing/descending and it was good to see the people that knew and cared for him (Ron). Good to see Kevin (xhusker) and Willy (queenwilhelmina) out there as well. Andy, I just found out that Irvine Regional Park is the same as whats commonly called 'Santiago Oaks', thanks to your link to the map. Technically I know now they are separate areas, just right next to each other. Been there quite a bit it turns out. D'oh!! If there are any pics from that day can you post up a link to them?? Thanks!!

These are the only two I know about. It was a tough day for me. I had no idea, but man it was bottled up inside me.
For those that don't know, Ron battled an addiction with alcohol. He hid it like you couldn't imagine. Several of us confronted him several times, but it was to deaf ears. I can only look back and ask myself why I didn't try harder.
If you suspect someone is having issues, get out of your comfort zone and risk your friendship. Risk opening yourself up and getting attacked. I can only look back and wish I had tried at least one more time. I miss you my friend.

Rest in Peace Ron, Rest in Peace.
