    Greetings fellow roadie/mtb folks...
I'm going to be in San Diego for a week staying in the Sail Bay/Mission Bay area.
Where can I pedal from there on my road bike to get some decent spin time without heavy stop and go traffic? No such thing? I know that area is pretty dense, but is there some road I can get on that will head out a ways, 40-50+ miles?
As I look at the map that Friars road>Mission Gorge route "looks" promising. Anything else? Something Better?
I bringing my MTB too, Still have yet to nail down some rides. I just want to be able to get my fix right from the front door in the AM.
    Thank you.

The Silver strand is popular, 25 miles round trip. Olympic rd off the 805 is up hill for about seven miles and you have lots of option once you get to the end.

Hi. I suggest trying this route from Mission Bay to Torrey Pines state park. A round trip will give you 40 miles and it will keep you out of traffic for the most part. If you feel like a longer ride, you can continue North past the State Park for extra miles. I've done this ride from the Loma Portal area near OB and found it to be very enjoyable.

If you like climbing, you can up Mt. Soledad from Mission Bay and drop into La Jolla, climb up past Scripps and go past UCSD then ride up the PCH. I wouldn't go much past Del Mar, though, the safety margin diminishes beyond that. There are 3 or 4 routes up Soledad from MB, Fanuel, La Jolla Scenic Drive and Soledad Mt. Road are all good routes up. Friars and Mission Gorger... pretty crowded now but at least there is a bike lane. As far as MTB riding, Mission trails is close and has a decent amount of riding, but I haven't ridden there in years.

    Have fun.
