Hello, Are there any good trails in the Santa Clarita area besides Viper? That's the only one that I've ridden. I've heard about Tapia Canyon (never ridden it), but I know that there were a bunch of legal issues with trespassing into that area, and I don't know what the current status of all that is. Anyone know? Is there any other good loop (that involves single track) apart from Viper and Tapia Canyon? Thanks!
Locals post here: http://www.imtbtrails.com/forum/index.php And there is a FB group of locals also. Tapia is open to ride, Charlie Cyn. is being built up too, to keep people away from the Trespass area. Check out Towsley, East Canyon, Los Pinetos.....
I like Towsley cyn. 95% single trac. It climbs 600 ft very quickly on a set of pyramid style switchbacks. after that it climbs 400 more feet to the summit. It rides as a loop, but better as an out and back turning around at the far plunge and climbing back (another 400' drop). The top of the ridge rides super sweet in each direction. This trail does what I like best, climb and drop. (1400 ft as an out n back) Happy sweet empty single tracs
I am going to ride the Towsley out n back this weekend. The soil conditions should be nice since this storm just passed us by
Tapia is a good place to ride with several trail choices. Here is a strava map from my last ride up there. Took charlie canyon up, kona down to the tapia fire road, then climbed back to where the old track used to be and took the fireroad and downtown out. https://www.strava.com/activities/242429383 Also, took a crappy video of Kona if you are interested in what the trail looks like. Trail survived the rain fairly well. Top of Kona got a little more rutted, but people have been out there working on the trail. (Thank you whomever you are!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1W1kDktZ78
Thanks for the info! Checked out this route today and enjoyed it. Looks like there's a whole lot more singletrack out there to explore. I'll be back.
Glad the info was helpful for you JimN. There are lots of fun things in the tapia area to keep someone busy.
