First of all- I missed the PUMP Committee meeting last night and feel like a total jerk because of it, I failed to stay o ntop of the schedule. I'm not sure if there are any more meetings of this nature to come.

The showing of cyclists was few. The showing of hating kooks was overwhelming and they did a lot of damage.

The committee voted 8 to 4 to ban bikes from upper Portuguese Bend. If accepted by the City Council, the gate at Crenshaw will be closed to bikes.

I am urging everyone in the So. Bay to get/stay involved our all our efforts will be for not.

MTB.PV is being updated soon but there is still good info there.
    http://mtbpv.org/pvtr_alerts.htm

I also urge anyone that knows a bike shop in this area to urge them to speak up as well as they have a stake in this. I ordered a new bike a while back and same has been shadowed by a large black cloud of doom and I feel pretty sick about the whole situation.

Hopefully the Council will see through the hater's agenda and recognise our efforts as Cyclists and all we have done to protect and restore this area. We are not getting the repspect or the useage rights or credit and respect we rightly deserve.

    -Kevin, CORBA-PV.

Thanks for the heads-up, Kevin. I'll send an email later today to the PUMP committee stating my concerns (after my midterm). I used to ride there a lot more than I do now but would be a shame if I couldn't go back again if I wanted to.

I just rode there for the first time last night. It'd be a shame to lose this spot (its the only one close to me). Lemme know what I can do to help.

edit: I'd also be more than happy to contribute to trail work as well. I've got my shovels. :D

    Thanks guys.

We are all pretty sick to our stomach's right now. Just a huge blow has been delt and it is reverberating through our trail crew pretty badly today.

    Pretty sad day.

It's amazing how many clueless haters there are with nothing better to do than spew.

Everytime I ride there now, some crazy nazi hiker b*tch is taking pictures.... I saw her at the water tower and said "good morning" to her the other day. I just rode up with two friends. She looked at me and scoffed and then told her partner "it's 9:02 and there are three of them. Let's get out of here." Then walked up about 20 yards and started taking pictures. I just waved and smiled.

If "they" voted 8-4 then what is the deal? Eventually it will be closed. Looks like I may have to go to jail for riding my bike. Disgusting.

Why can't we all just get along?

Stray- I know of whom you speak.

But I wont post her name here. I'm in her of pics book as well.
She is a way over the top with this campaign of hate and propaganda.

I find it utterly disturbing people of this level of instability are taken even half-seriously or even given the floorspace they need to verbalize their agenda while others are forced to take it in silence.

Guess that is simply a sign of the times we live in now. Hopefully the Council will see through it all.

I agree, too bad we all can't get along.

There is another Committee meeting 10-30-07.

After that there is a Public Meeting in February.

It's not "if" it's "when" I am afraid. The nazi hikers are out of control... they are very organized and can lobby very well. I don't think they dislike the XC riders. I think they HATE the freeriders. (This is just my opinion) It's almost a drag riding there now with so much hate between the hikers and the bikers. I grew up in PV. It would seriously suck to not be able to ride there if I like.

I have seen Freeriders out there carving their own trails and flying onto the main fire road from out of nowhere. That could get real ugly if they did that around an equestrian.
Anyway, I've sent an email to Mr. Mihranian and will be at the meeting on the 30th.

It's not over. But as been mentioned in other threads, the local mountain bike community needs to participate in the discussion early on, and not just attend the final hearing where a decision is anticipated.

I'd recommend you and others (I'll participate) call the City Council members that may be tasked to make any policy/use decisions regarding the area. Or even arrange meetings with them individually prior to the hearing.

I've spent a long time working for various cities, and believe me, it's imperative that councilmembers hear both sides of the issue.

PM me if you want to chat off-line.

We already overloaded the City Council with e-mails, calls and such. They are aware of what is going on. They literally got flattened by the flood of correspondence.

We need to sway the PUMP Committee more than anything, but, that is too little too late at this point for the most part, maybe not. They voted 8-4 to ban us.

There is one more PUMP Committee meeting that I know of. We need to show up for this one. We need BODIES at the meeting. We need to show everyone that we have a right to be there and use this open space just like everyone else. It paints a poor picture when we flap about it but don't show up. (I'm guilty there)

If you do contact someone, don't rant. Keep to the facts and we even have examples containing text for ideas etc on the website.

Here is a webpage of the hikers up in Santa Barbara. You may have seen this webpage before?!?! I think it's comedy, but obviously (from their point of view) it isn't.

Poke around that webpage and you will see things from "their" point of view. Look in the pulldown labeled "BIKERS." Amazing. It used to make me laugh, now it just angers me.

BTW, I am sure "they" have people that look at this and other MTB webpages...
