They're building our dedicated server right now. After that they'll work on migrating the data to the new box. The lady estimated late sunday or sometime monday for everything to be done.

The server upgrade should take care of the recent slowdown and make the site feel quite snappy again.

I'll be updating this thread as I get more updates.

Mini update: the server is built and online. Now they need to migrate the data.

It's not on the new server yet. :)

They're doing the actual migration right now so don't be surprised to see more hiccups (like the 404 error thing). I turned off the rewritten URL's temporarily to solve the 404's but there may be more funkiness ...

Thanks George. I know this all cost money. I bet you never thought this site would be as popular as it is. Anyhow. time for me to step up and help you get some money back. I will donate next payday.

Apparently their usual data migration software couldn't handle the size of the site so they're doing it manually. That's the last I heard.

That must take a long time, it is super sloooooooow this morning still. When can we expect the site to be back to normal (or at least the speeds its been the last few days (which have been really good!))? Thanks!

Edit: Of course as soon as I posted that it starts movin a little faster for me #-o LOL

Hopefully not too much longer. They're still transferring data from one server to another.

    next steps:
    • waiting until the data transfer is done
    • I have to check the new server to make sure there aren't any bugs there
    • I'll then disable the boards and have them do a last minute transfer of the database to the new server (to preserve posts made in the last day or two)
    • DNS has to be updated to point to the new server
    • once DNS has propagated then www.socaltrailriders.org will be pointed to the new server
    • boards will be enabled again and STR will be (hopefully) responsive and fast again

Thanks for all your efforts, grasshopper

We really don't see you out much on the trails around here... some think you are only a legend. Hopefully, that will change in the future.

 Sadly you're right. I've been sneaking an after work ride here and there but have been itching to see some of you again.

edit: they gave me an eta of 6-7 hours to finish the data transfer #-o
