Justice served--great. But what a bunch of pussies for not taking that bat from the old man, slapping him and sending him on his way.

Not saying it's the smart or right thing to do, bing. At the risk of sounding like some internet tough guy, I'm not going to stand idle while some decrepit redneck threatens my group with a bat. Sure, I could get offed a la Easy Rider. The cops can come find me if they disagree with my frontier justice. I'd prefer to send a message to would-be cyclist harassers than toe the legal line. Cheers...

Those guys did exactly the right thing. The guy with the camera even extracted a confession from the guy on video. To retaliate against the guy would have felt good at the time, but would have potentially screwed the other cyclists who may have claims for injuries and damaged bikes.

I have had much worse happen on a ride before I moved to CA. In North Carolina, we had a guy pass us and then make a right turn into the lead rider. He then got out of his truck and demanded that we get the injured rider off his property. I used to think that ignorant rednecks were a Southern thing... then I moved to California. Now I realize that ignorance and rednecks have no borders.

I agree the dude behind him sitting closest could easily have grabbed the bat from that clown if they felt he was actually gonna hit them.. they all looked pretty relaxed and likely weren't going to make him take a swing.. what an idiot move to run over the bike when leaving of course right after admitting what he did.. total redneck moron..

On another note, in reading the article where the cycle club claims to have been riding single file.. I'm calling bullshit on that! If the route has as "little" traffic as they claim, no way they weren't spreading out as typically seen around here.. Not that it matters, driver was a complete idiot but personally I think the "riding single file" comment is a stretch..

Nothing on you man. Just wanted to point out that acting drastically in an already difficult situation can turn a situation where a cyclist is in the right, a full 180 degrees, ending with with lycra clad fellas in a cell.

Grabbing a bat is the same as grabbing someone's weapon. Doing so can be taken as a threat. I wouldnt do it unless I'm 100% sure I can disarm the other individual and I can justify my actions with a credible threat. If a threat was evident, I'd stab that guy with a tire lever to the neck even before I grab that bat :)

    Eees all good.

I agree but also an idiot move from the guy who placed his $5000 bike down in front of the truck. It's not there at the start of the video.

At the start of the video, there is a guy leaning on his bike with deep set wheels. It's a different bike (rims) that gets run over.
