I talked to one of the Rangers last week and he said they have just been asked to add Forrestal trails due to some quote "trouble!"
I've only seen "trail closed" signs once on a busy weekend (two rangers present) on Ishibashi, Eagle's Nest, and the like... During the week, I've not seen explicit signs and I've seen hikers going down Ishibashi. I sadly just cruised down Burma fire road and back up. Anyone have any update or ETA when this nightmare will be all over?
Hey Yall just got this e-mail from the city. The City of Rancho Palos Verdes has re-opened all public trails within the area of the Portuguese Bend Reserve damaged by the August 27, 2009 wildfire. Visitors to the Reserve are asked to adhere to the designated trails and be mindful of the delicate habitat areas, so that the ecosystem can continue to recover. The City greatly appreciates your understanding and cooperation. Be careful though there are some nasty rain ruts down the center of many of the trails and in a couple of places some deep channels where the trails are actually missing
PORTUGUESE BEND TRAILS NOW OPEN FIRE RECOVERY EFFORTS UNDERWAY Wednesday, March 3, 2010 Today the City of Rancho Palos Verdes has re-opened all public trails within the area of the Portuguese Bend Reserve damaged by the August 27, 2009 wildfire and heavy winter rains. Visitors to the Reserve are asked to please stay on the designated trails and be mindful of the delicate habitat areas, so that the ecosystem can continue to recover. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will continue habitat recovery work in the wildfire area, which began in December 2009. Although we are already witnessing a welcome return of wildflowers and native plant recovery, weeds are also a threat to much of the open space. The Conservancy has prioritized several key areas that contained important coastal sage scrub plant life and were nesting sites for the California gnatcatcher and the coastal cactus wren before they were damaged by the wildfire. These critical areas are the focus of our weed control and native planting & seeding operations that we will continue in 2010. In addition, we are also targeting the removal of a few highly invasive weeds, such as castor bean and carnation spurge, to limit their spread throughout the Reserve. To measure the recovery process, we are implementing bird surveys, habitat monitoring and photo documentation. This will allow us to evaluate the success of the measures we are taking and adaptively manage the Reserve for the best results. The trail systems in the Portuguese Bend Reserve, as well as those around the Peninsula, have been heavily affected by the winter rains. In the burn area, many of the trails have been extremely eroded and are in need of repair. Unfortunately, until the rainy season has finished, much of the repair work will have to wait. Some trail projects we are currently working on include realigning the Toyon Trail, assessing the boundary of the Rim Trail and its possible realignment, and enhancing trails within the burn area. For safety reasons, while in the Reserve, please be mindful of all closure and changing conditions signage. We are extremely grateful for the many ways that our membership came together last year to acquire the Upper Filiorum property and we appreciate your continued support of the Conservancy in 2010 through your volunteer activities and contributions. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to learn more about how you could help today. Sincerely, Andrea Vona Executive Director Louise Olfarnes Manager of Marketing Communications Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy 310-541-7613 X210 310-541-7623 (Fax)

Sucks cause I ride while family members run so we split up depending which trails we're allowed on and just meet up on Burma in a perfect world they'd all be open to bikes yea yea yea I know. My nephew got PO while we were there fun little plants aren't they I still like our little Cizzle !!!
Rode there yesterday afternoon... I got bushwacked in Ishibashi and Slalom... too many Ruts... some ruts are so wide they looked like an earthquake fault line... and I saw this while I was climbing up Burma. I had to scare it away before some biker runs it over..

To all PV Bikers and trail users, there is a trail day this Saturday June 5th where volunteers help with trail maintenance. Its from 9am to 12 noon starting at Del Cerro park (Southern point of Crenshaw blvd.). Anyone interesting in helping us show support from the biker community is very welcome. CORBA is also helping with some support sponsorship. Our presence in the past has been noted and only helps our case in keeping trails open to bikers and maybe one day get us more trails.
i just got my orders that i start a new job right around the corner from this place. anyone want to show a newb around? or perhaps give a link to a trailmap?
Riding back up the Burma fire road last week I counted a record (for me) 13 snake track crossings and one live one.
