You guys take this shit to heart it was my opinion not a ****ing bible, you can leave or fix it....But if its fun bike ride like the guy above you stated, but mention RACE like 4 times, while putting everyone down then it's just NOT a ride around the lake then. But the crashes are lesseon learned, I'll race again..its just gonna be different next time. LIke I said it was fun,met cool folks, but it could be better..If you didn't like that then like the guy above you said GET OVER IT

I'm so glad I don't race nor have any intention on doing so - I might punch someone who takes OTH too seriously.

    Mike,

We are friends and all but i got to say this, that is a lady you are talking too..

The MTB community along with this web site are full of really good people. I noticed around here, you gotta go along in order to get along =) OTH is a great org, it will grow on you, they have their hands full every year putting this together for all of us. If its 600 or 800 hundred racers that show up, then guess what, they are doing something right (not disrespect brotha).

Another thing about OTH is that the crowd should thin a little bit as we go along. The first week always draws the biggest crowd.
It will still be crowded, just not as much.

The last few just before the finale almost seem vacant in comparison to week 1 - there's like only 350 people out there then.

so what are you saying? People that race a CX bike at OTH should first know you:lol:?

Or to race a CX rig at OTH you must first race locally? I have only raced CX in Minnesota, my bad:lol::lol::lol:

I just wanted to race something different......

This is what happened to me at OTH:

After the steep down and right turn on the first loop I tried to gun it on the trail to clear the next little set of ups. I tried to pass someone on the left just as she got blocked and was forced to dismount. On top of me. I fell off the side of the trail and slid towards the lake. There was no way I was going to get back up to the trail on my own. The girl stopped and apologized maybe 500 times and a guy behind her stopped his race, dropped his bike, and reached down the hill to pull me back up the trail. Then we all got back on our bikes and had some more fun.

I remember the first OTH series [3 races]. The OTH theme has always been about fun and sportsmanship. I gotta hand it to the OTH crew, they saw a need and delivered! The OC was hungry for this. The numbers of riders is a strong testament.

Nice point I'm in agreement. Just the other day a hardtailer made an unsafe lane change coming from behind me. We clipped handlebars and nearly crashed. I asked him what the heck was he thinking he said "Oh I Thought You Wanted To Race" keep in mind Im riding my 28lb FS and he's on a sub 20lb hardtail. Lol. When I'm leeching behind someone I always make sure the rider in front acknowledges me before I pass it's called trail etiquette whether or not your racing.

Tons of great conversation and solid celebration of jobs well done out on the course. It truly is difficult for us to assess a riders correct class without seeing 2 weeks performance and watching results against a weekly varied field. 2 things to remember the fun should be riding, winning is as much in your own personal best performance than in overall finish place. (My 2008 VQ finish was almost 100th, but I finished and was within 9 minutes of my goal time of 8:30 never had such an amazing "mediocre finish win"as that day.

    2. we're always looking at everyone's experience and trying to keep the field balanced. We're not always right in our class assessment but that's where you can try to outclass yourself and if it puts you dead last or in a place you hate racing then our hope is not to hold the man down and make hot suffer. Is not the Olympics, but we do take fun fair competition seriously.

Race #1 2013 was the best yet, and its only gonna get better. Thanks guys, for coming our and sharing all your stories.

With just a touch of sentamentality it was you guys at STR who inspired many of the upgrades and improvement of OTH over the past 4 seasons. Is ask a joy, and the best "work day" we have every week. Keep up the good work. See you Tuesday, enjoy the long weekend

Welcome to MTB racing! As with most racing events (moto, bmx, horse, ostrich, etc) you must account for the variables. Fallen riders, weather, etc. Add in the mass start that most these events like to begin with and you have yourself some organized chaos (which is pretty awesome). OTH is aimed for amateur racing. We all know how upsetting a crash, flat tire, lightning strike can be while on your run, but to complain about it is bad form. Try working on your sprints to separate yourself from the group, or better yet train hard and race Expert/Pro where you are less likely to get held up by slower riders. Either way, you get to enjoy riding your bike to your hearts content (limit) with friends and peers who all enjoy the same stoke as you.
