    Hello!

My name is Jason, I've been riding for about a month. Haven't been on a bike since I was a kid. BEST DECISION I've made to get back on a bike, even better to ride in the Mountains!

Got myself a Giant Revel 1 29er and my 10yr old a Specialized Myka 26. My kid JUST learned to ride, maybe 3 months now, and day by day the confidence just keeps growing with my little one :D

My local trail is Del Cerro. Occasionally I'd go with some buddies of mine to Shermak Oaks (really don't know the trail but its on Mulholland), and Aliso Woods Park (I think this will be where I take my kid for the first real ride).

Looking forward to learning a lot from members here.

    Welcome from Pasadena!

Aliso woods as a first ride sounds like fun.

    Have fun and be safe!

    Welcome from Laguna Beach.

I have to contradict Von however. Aliso is not a good place for beginners and newbs. It's fine if you stay on the lower roads and trails such as Wood Canyon Road and Coyote singletrack, but beyond that, the climbs and descents are too challenging for a newbie to really enjoy safely. Whiting Ranch has a much mellower average gradient, a nice tree canopy and very little technical. Both of those are a pretty long drive from South Bay. I imagine there are many STR peeps from that area who can steer you towards proper trails for developing your skills and stoke.

    Enjoy your new soon-to-be-obsession!

herzalot, thanks for the advice, I was thinking of only taking wood canyon a couple times around. I will also check out Whiting Ranch as you suggested.

    Welcome from Orange.

Peters Canyon is where I practiced everyday when I was a noob - try giving it a try.
