With all the crazy new snow up on saddlecrack, Tim and I decided to have an excellent adventure. Our goal was to ride/hike up to joplin starting at the bottom of the luge and get some super etch a scetch riding conditions. We almost reached our goal but ended up running out of light about mid way up to old camp. The Conditions were Epic to say the least. Lots of Mud, slush, Ice, and lots and lots of snow! The Snow remained thick through the less sun exposed areas of the trail. It was interesting riding on the ice and snow, And i purposely road through some thick snow banks. My muddy marry's griped really well maybe better than loose over hardback dry conditions. The snow kind of filled in the voids between rocks and such making a very smooth ride in other wise rough areas of the trail. As we made our way down the Luge there were areas of super slick and slimy mud and we both almost went down. The trail seemed to have smoothed its self out with the recent wet conditions. we rode the cement walk path down to our cars and saw a Bobcat scattering away from the side of the road, pretty cool to see, about the size of a large dog with big furry, and thick legs. All in all super stoked and can't wait to get back out there again.

Tim Also has some GOPRO footage, so you guys can see the conditions for your selves. In the mean time here are some Pictures from the ride!

I'm not sure what's more brilliant...jacking up our clay-based trails by riding them in the wet/mud or DH bikes for STT and the luge. There's a Darwin award brewing here for sure.

What's wrong with riding a DH bike anywhere? Not a big deal IMO.

To respond only about the DH bikes. There are some whiting ranch locals (2 guys 2 girls) who only have DH bikes. I always wondered what trails they were riding with dual crown forks and 8" bikes when I saw them on Alton. One day I saw one alone at the entrance and ride Borrego with him til I couldn't keep up haha. He just has that one bike and pedals it everywhere.

Re: bike types, ride what you like or what you have, my nephew had a kick on his 40 pound 1 inch travel bike today. Phat bike, singlespeed, rigid, DH monster, doesn't matter if you like it. Plenty of guys kick butt climbing on a DH bike, plenty kick butt on a rigid going down. Ride what makes you smile.

Re: FD Pezman, he does ALLOT of work on the Luge and has certification as trail maintainer in CNF. I'll say he knows where to avoid damaging a trail but if he does he'll fix it. Guessing climbing Luge (nut!) and STT from Luge to Old Camp doesn't do so much harm. STT from the grade to Luge can be a gooey mess.

peace, people, I personally hate riding in slop.

    Thanks for the RR, FD!

Nothing brewing here but ignorance and intolerance. I've been out pedaled by guys on BIG DH rigs all around the Oaks on my AM 29r, (friend in the group) and my 15 yr old kept up with a BIG group pedaling 20+ miles in Sedona with a Slopestyle and his remote seat post DOWN the whole time (he's a BMX'r). I've spent MANY hours out there in work groups and this trail holds up great - have ridden it with the many maintenance guy IN the rain.

Ride what you've got - and may it brings smiles and giggles of joy!!!!

Thanks for sharing these great PICS!!! We were deep in our own snow in Sedona, can't wait to go hit the local stuff!!!

Ride #3 on the Bandit with Kioti himself - was a freakin' blast!

Dude Sedona looks awesome! All i have is a DH bike, Im trying to save up for a trail bike. Im 26, married and going to college so its going to be a while before i can afford a decent trail bike. like some of you guys pointed out its just all i have to ride so i have to make it work. Most of you guys will probably see me trying to ride up STT or hike up the luge. I try to be very respectful of the down hill traffic and Im always off the trail and out of the way before any one gets to me. Even while I'm doing trail work I try to vigilant and out of the way, because i know that it is the most fun part of the trail.

The trail is clay based, and ill be honest i might of done a little damage, but so did the twenty other riders who were bombing the luge. who btw I cheered on! I had never ridden in snow before and it did not disappoint! It was a Blast!
