I don't know about you all, but this looks like the Virgin Mary to me. But, you know what, I see her immaculately conceived self on my toast, on my tortillas, in my chest hair, and in that water stain on my wall. Hey sweetie, would you mind if I put your side up for sell on Ebay. We can totally make bank..enough to buy you a brand new bionic side. Woo-hoo!

    It's a nautilus shell.

    A stomach.

    A heart.

Did I really type that or just hallucinate it?

IM going to have to very much so disagree with tat statement.

Knee pads and elbow guards are not armor, its just smart thinking. Telling someone that means they are not confident with their riding is a rather harsh statement. The kids think its cool to not wear ANY gear, look at how it always ends up, alot of pain, and alot of money for mom and dad. For Luke and Allision, they are in the boat I am in.... I have to be able to go to work tommorrow, and I have to be able to perform my duties. If I get injured, it can very well cost me my job, which would lead to my house, my cars.... and probably my bikes.

I am no beginner rider, and I have every bit of confidence in my riding, there isnt much at sycamore I wouldnt try, but without my gear, there is even more that I wouldnt even think about trying..... for the shear factor of...YOU CANNOT ACCOUNT FOR EVERYTHING...New rut in a trail, new rock, new patch of silt.... the list goes on.
Another great reson to be wearing "extra" safety gear, is when pushing your own limits, you can be as comfortable with your riding as is allowable by all of nature, but you cannot account for everything that can/will happen while riding. Even teh most skilled riders have accidents, were one, or two peices of safety gear was, or could have made all the difference in the world.
Like Cal said, its the trails we know best that hurt us the most.

Now for Luke and Allision..... I am glad you guys are wearing protective gear out there. Just as I look at myself, I try to set an example of what a responsible adult should be doing. Let the youngsters know its ok to be prepared for something bad to happen. If I ever have kids, I can gaurantee one thing..... They WILL be wearing there safety gear, if they are not I will be selling there bikes.... PERIOD.

If it makes anyone feel better, I wear kneepads, elbow guads, and a FF helmet everytime I ride at sycamore.

Heal up, that bruise looks bad. I also went otb in Aug but wasn't as lucky as you. Broke clavical and had it repaired with surgery. You will be better before you know it. Hang in there while you heal, I know I was very bummed when I couldn't ride. Take care.

Luke...take the keyboard away until the Vicodin wears off. I know she's upset but she has never used profane language before. Nevermind....it does make for good reading. Get well soon Killer.;)

    Soooooo---
Did the follow up with my own doctor this morning.

Yes, tissue damage in shoulder and hip. Torn tendon in my shoulder (near the joint). Pain in my lower left abdomen is from a torn muscle (unrelated to biking) that occurred a couple months ago and was aggravated by the fall.

Still need to use the crutches to alleviate pressure on my hip when I walk. Aggravates the shoulder to do that, but fortunately I'm not walking around much anyway. Gave me Percoset (oxycodone) for the pain because he decided that Vicodin wasn't cutting it. Never taken anything that strong before; ought to be interesting. ;)

The real depressing part came when he told me that rather than sending me back to work and giving me a note for restricted duties, that he wanted me home and resting to give everything a chance to heal. I am stuck at home for 2 weeks! This sucks because I've been hoarding all my vacation time in preparation for an epic bike trip next summer. Now I'm going to have to use up all my sick time and the vacation time I've got left. :( Yeah, I know I'm lucky, at least I've got it covered, but I don't have to be happy about it either.

I am supposed to see him next Monday again for follow-up, and I'm hoping I'm moving around okay enough that I can go back to work before the 14th.

Normally I would be thrilled to have time off, but not when I can't bike, dammit! Speaking of which, I probably won't be able to ride again for over a month. Today I was online looking at trainers, because I don't want to lose all that cardio progress I've made. It would suck balls to get back on my bike and find I'm climbing hills the way I did when I first started. So I was thinking that a trainer would be good physical and cardio therapy for me in the meantime while I'm waiting to get back on the trails.

I dont know how Vicodin effected you but the 325mg Oxycodone I have is not that strong but Vicodin had no effect on me at all.

Damm I got one week off and then a week of light duty from my doctor.

Yeah, the Vicodin was getting rid of about 75% of the pain, and I'd really feel it when it wore off. Wasn't quite doing it, which is why he gave me the Percoset. I took one 2 hours ago, and man, am I f-ed up! I am sooooo loopy right now!

I wish I could have gotten 1 week off and 1 week light duty. That would suit me just fine. I think he's concerned that because of the nature of my job (lots of walking and lifting) that light duty is still going to be too much. I figure that when I see him on Monday, if I'm feeling better, I may be able to get the terms changed.

Sorry to hear you're not getting to hold on to vaca time. That almost hurts more than the injury. Can't they give you some work to do from home?
