Hope she heals fast. Sucks she crashed but cool she could ride out.

I was a tech as well for many years. I used to use some of the "supplies" as well when I would bail or get covered in PO.

Not sure if her clinic would allow it but when I would crash hard I would head over to the clinic and shoot my own x-rays (I was the x-ray tech as well). That saved a lot of time, money and most of all the hassle of dealing with a hospital.

Ouch, sorry about your wife. I'm glad nothing is broken. I have recently started wearing my elbow pads on every ride. Now I just think of them as part of my helmet. I would never ride without my helmet so why not those too.

Mathis is very rocky right now. Seems like every year more and more dirt washes away and it gets rockier. Old timer friends of mine say that it used to be almost entirely dirt fireroad at one point. Even that narrow singletrack before it used to be fireroad until erosion destroyed it.

I don't know if this was her first major fall, but for me there were many panic attacks and anxiety about riding afterwards. I hope she's back on two wheels and fear-free soon.

She does x-rays too but she's not allowed or supposed to do them on herself... it might be something she could work out with her clinic.

NO GO and I are going to pick up elbow pads for our wives and require they wear them... we should probably too but we're men we never listen or do whats good for us.

Yes this was her first major fall she's only been riding for a month or so and I'm sure in-experience played a part in the spill. She'll be weary the first couple of times back out there but shes tough she'll bounce back. She used to ride horses a lot and has broken her back on a fall and had a horse roll over on her yet she still rides horses... so I think she'll get over the MTB fear rather quickly.

    SlowRide,

Be patient with her when she gets back in the saddle. Guaranteed she will be gun shy of those trails as the memory of the crash and pain will be present.

Mentally, you know how it is after a bad crash! Hope she's feeling better!

Nice initiation into the club. Glad it's nothing serious, heal quick, and get back out there!

I'll probably be the one "encouraging" her to conquer her MTB fear (if any). That way Slowride doesn't have to spend the night on the couch or at my pad.

Well just a little update... all of the wounds have healed nicely thanks for the recommendation for the Brave Soldier that worked great on her face... now the problem is we can't get her shoulder back up to par so she went in to the orthopedic specialist and got an MRI, we are waiting for the results but they said it's some sort of damage to her rotator cuff. We're hoping for the best and that it isnt her rotator cuff and all she'll need is some PT!!!

Man sorry to hear that. Hope she heals with nothing permanently damaged.

I know it's tough to see one's wife (or kids) crash. For me, it's way worse than when I crash.

    Hydro Brakes

On the subject of Speed, Mathis and Brakes...

Lately I've noticed that my wife was really gaining confidence and bombing down Mathis. My other buddies noticed too and it was the topic of conversation one day while we waited for her...

At any rate, when she arrived at the rest spot I asked her about it. The other guy were all complimenting her and stuff... her response? Well, my brakes don't work too well so I have to go fast#-oShe is running V's front and back because the frame doesn't support Disks.

At any rate, a set of Magura Hydraulic Vs are now installed. and while we have a slower downhiller (scrubbed 3MPH off the max speed) in the family, she is more happy:)

    Good Brakes == Good Husband.;)

Good to hear she is OK. I no longer go down Mathis as there are waay too many people climbing and it's so easy to get going fast on that fireroad anyway.

How about buying her a full face and some pads instead on new brakes?

She has elbow & Arm pads. In addition to hydraulic brakes (had cable before).
Knee and shin pads were discussed. The full face helmet is an interesting point. If she did DH and not XC riding, I could see wearing a full face helmet. Think it would be hot wearing one all the time or cumbersome to ride by both an XC & full face helmet.
Do they make a ultra light weight helmet that won't cook your noodle on the climbs???

So the results are in... she tore her rotator cuff. They gave her a cortisone shot in her shoulder and then said try physical therapy for a few weeks and we'll reevaluate July 10th. If that doesnt work its time for surgery. Plus he gave her a prescription for more Norco's... always good to have those for back up in the future haha.
