Hello everyone!I've been lurking for some time now and opted to join STR as my only riding buddies (neighbors) are Marines and deploy a lot. I have been an amateur motorcycle road racer for many years and the older (plus wiser) I get the more I questioned why I spent a lot of out of pocket money (plus some average sponsorship dollars) racing motorcycles, crashing them, repairing them and repeating it month over month. It took a nasty spill at Fontana (Auto Club Speedway) in front of my wife and kids to finally decide to hang the leathers up and find another hobby. I will always ride motorcycles (have since I was old enough to have a job) and currently have a cruiser (not H-D) to commute on. Now on to the point. My neighbor and his in laws are into serious biking (their bikes are worth more than motorcycles) and drug me out for a ride. I was a slave to BMX prior to 10 years in the Army so I thought it would be a great way to get some exercise. Man... what I wasn't ready for was the exhilaration and excitement a little 8 mile MTB ride gave me. So now I am hooked and have another hobby my wife can complain I'm spending too much money on. LOLHope I can contribute whatever knowledge I can give and learn some about this amazing sport. Can't wait to get on a few rides (working in Oceanside helps) and my favorite ride spot right now is Vail Lake (just did the 12 & 6 hours of Temecula "beginner lap") and can't wait to find more trails to ride.:bang::clap::read:

Welcome from MoVal. Check out The Hub Cyclery in Idyllwild and their weekly ride. They will be one of the first to know once Hurkey Creek trails will be open again and can give you lots of info on the other trails in that area. You also have Sycamore Canyon in Riverside and SART not too far away.

Welcome! I believe there are a few of ex-motorbike guys on STR (Dirt-track and Road race myself), and yes you're correct that a bicycle cost just as much and sometimes more than a motorbike! The only bad about that is realizing that the engine is old and in need of a tuneup...and you're the engine now.

Welcome! Good thing you picked up an inexpensive hobby with a low chance of injury to replace your motorcycle racing. #-o

Mountain biking - as addictive as crack, but twice as expensive! Welcome to the fold.

Welcome from French Valley. Check out the Meadow View Mountain Goats for group rides or intel on local trails. There's more around here than you'd realize.

Another welcome from the general area. As posted above, there's a ton of people into all types of riding and quite a few areas to explore if you liked Vail.
