So I guess Rosa Parks was a whiny bitch. She should have penned up some new legislation instead of breaking the law.

The problem is some Americans feel entitled to determine if other Americans act American enough.

Instead of whiny bitch, which is sexist, you should use the term uppity. Uppity has the advantage of not being sexist while still managing to convey the latent racism it embraces to the listener.

Can't just bust out the n-word anymore because of all that goddamn political correctness...

I like to see all sides actually being discussed.

Though I surmise that Calzone wasn't expressing disbelief that people steal or fake SSN numbers, but that once you have one, you're on easy street and life is a peach.

You're still paying income taxes into someone elses fund, and you get only what benefits you can take on the run, if any.

    ...

I do wonder how many immigrants you know personally, Abui. How many of these peoples real day-to-day lives you have firsthand knowledge of, when you call my experience with them a fantasy. I could handpick trite, shining examples of the kind of people I base my arguments on, but it could very well be a small sampling not necessarily indicative of the whole. ...but are you so certain that your idea of them (which I'm sure does apply to many people) is any more universal?

In any event, upwardly mobile people go where the money is.

...won't be long and they'll all be chasing it over to China.

The debate on a mountainbike website proves nothing but animosity amongst us. Like I've typed before, has anyone of you wrote the Arizona Senators or Governor?
If your an American citizen and not going to break an Arizona law than why bother. If your an illegal immigrant and intend to break the law in Arizona, get someone to watch your bikes because if your caught committing a crime and the Officer deems that you are not a Naturaized citizen your going to be deported.

There are big issues in California, scream about those. The Arizona issue is a waste of time. If you'd like to continue pressing the issue Pinkbike and Ridemonkey have Arizona forums. I appreciate your opinions Calzone and many others I think you all need to get off your computers and ride.

I'm in training in Maryland right now so I can't ride with you all but I can for you all and I will on Friday.

Shame in the media for saying "Cinco De Mayo is a holiday", since when?

Easter is not even a holiday.

Shame on political correctness at Morgan Hill High School. They failed to recognize two of thier alumni went off to war and died in battle Iraq and Afghanistan.

Last time I checked Bettsy Ross proclaimed she had sewn our national standard in
    May 1776.

Mexico did not cede independance from Spain until September 1810. And yet our young people part Mexican get sent home for Freedom of Expression.

Damn that burns me up. When our Flag is raised and lowered across this earth all things stop. A pause is issued than ode to the flag is played, once the trumpet is sounded and the Servicemember properly collects the standard activity resumes on that installation. For those that have not witnessed this it is very respectful.

When I was in the NAVY, when the flag went up/down the entire base stopped. Cars pulled over, people faced the flag and saluted... everything stopped in time, unless you were inside and didnt' hear the trumpet over the loud speaker screaming across the base.

    definately a sight to see.

So is a Muslim call to prayer. Doesn't mean I'm going to give a damn about it.

For starters, I believe the original post stated that this was merely "part" of what's wrong with the country. And I do agree that we as a society have become so overly sensitive to any perceived offense that political correctness has effectively censored various perspectives from a reasonable public dialogue.

Also, not sure I would agree that this is off topic. Seems that a lot of the protestations against the AZ law on this thread have to do with concerns that we are losing the right to move about the country unencumbered. Here are students who are "hassled" simply for wearing the American flag - can it be argued that the removal of these students from classes is defensible yet asking someone to produce identification is not? Either way, I can't see this example as irrelevant to the debate. (And yes, am am aware of the limitations applied to the rights of students).

I am willing to admit that I could be wrong and would appreciate any feedback.

If these kids were "in danger" then why wasn't the threat removed?

Yeah, the flag t-shirt thing is really stupid. They should not have been asked to turn their shirts inside out. Also, students at school (I personally feel this is BS) don't have a right to free speech. Really.

I do feel the need to point out the following, however:

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations.

The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed, or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

    Nice Tapout shirt, American patriot.

    source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Flag_Code

That could have been a teachable moment, if you subscribe to the idea that you can teach anyone who thinks a Tapout logo is cool anything, which is certainly up for debate.

So I admit I had a very angry and passionate reaction against the Arizona law........and then this week I went out on the field as a Census ennumerator....

I went up to this one guy's house (a white guy) and I asked for his name, dob, number of people living in his house, etc. and he says "I don't want to give you any information"

I went to training all last week so I was prepared to say:

"Sir, under Title 13 of the United States legal code, you are legally required to provide the information as requested.....are you saying you refuse to provide this information to the Bureau of the Census?"

The guy promptly gave me everything I needed....

I went home and looked up the US legal code Title 13....apparently you can be fined up to $100 for not participating in the census..........and up to $500 if you knowingly provide misleading/incorrect information....

So are the Census laws unjust and unreasonable (like I feel the Arizona law might be unjust and unreasonable??) Here was a guy, in the sanctity of his own home (presumably a US Citizen) compelled to follow the law.....:-k

So I'm still not sure the Arizona law is right, bu after knocking on a few doors the last couple of days at least I am beginning to comprehend the flip side of this whole debate.

Well I'll be. I know the census serves a purpose, but being a stubborn nonconformist, I refuse to tell organizations accurate details about myself, uncle sam included. Every year I make up crazy stuff when the poor guy comes to my door. ...but they get off easy. I have all kinds of fun when the 7th day adventists show up. Consider it performance art.
