OK Teddy.....I speak English, I don't know spanish, I am loyal to this country, I only fly the American flag, I pledged allegiance to the Stars and Stripes, I ride mountain bikes, I went to college, I have assimilated.....

Then explain to me Teddy why am I still refered to as a hyphenated American (Mexican-American) instead of just an American????? Why do people need to say I'm HIspanic instead of just "American" ????????

Do we refer to Americans of Italian ancestry as "Italics" or people of German ancestry as "Germanics" ???

I didn't choose the label "Hispanic"....I think the other European-Americans chose it for me :-k

    Awesome fantasy.

Today paying taxes includes receiving money from the IRS. 47% of all filers pay no taxes.

In recent years, credits for low- and middle-income families have grown so much that a family of four making as much as $50,000 will owe no federal income tax for 2009, as long as there are two children younger than 17, according to a separate analysis by the consulting firm Deloitte Tax.

The IRS doesn't vet receipients like welfare agencies. Illegals steal an SNN and they're on easy street -

Obama's Making Work Pay credit provides as much as $800 to couples and $400 to individuals. The expanded child tax credit provides $1,000 for each child under 17. The Earned Income Tax Credit provides up to $5,657 to low-income families with at least three children.

Look at the sign carefully, you can see the "blemish" marks of a crappy white washing (no pun intended) of the background where some lettering once was.

Also, the blurriness of the image area compared to the surrounding sharpness of the rest of the image.

I was fortunate to have been part of the original beta testing group for Photoshop. I also worked on the book Whale Song, which was touted as the first book to be done completely on a Mac. Which it wasn't - but that is another story in and of itself.

I would give almost anything to have that original version of PS again for my 512E or SE30 though.

You can thank those of "Hispanic" ethnicity and other overly PC minded folks for that label.

Same as some folks prefer African-American, while others, like my brother and sister-in-law, prefer to be called Black because they're ancestry doesn't all point back to one specific country, like most blacks, or for that matter, most people in general.

While anyone should be referred by what they identify themselves with, there's just too much effin PC going around for my taste.

Teddy's response is you shouldn't be referred to as that...our country has changed since his day....he WOULD NOT approve

I have never been a fan of the Mexican-American or African-American or Asian-American....not the different races race but the titles.....

you are American or NOT...if you want to call yourself an American of Mexican descent or heritage fine....I don't expect for anyone to not be proud of where they came from....BUT if you come here to become a citizen....then you become an American (rare cases of dual citizenship) thru and thru...

As much as I despised Reagan, one of his speech writers nailed it, I don't recall the eaxct words except the last line but:

One can't go to Russia and become a Russian. One can't go to Africa and become African. But what is true is that one, and that anyone, from anywhere, can become an American.

I would like to be referred to as "Baldomerican". Please don't insult me and call me anything else. Baldness is a cherished part of my heritage and I will sue you if you hold it against me.

A Worthy Effort on Immigration Reform
    April 30, 2010
    Author:
Edward Alden, Bernard L. Schwartz Senior Fellow

Edward Alden, Bernard L. Schwartz Senior Fellow
The outline of a comprehensive immigration reform bill (PDF) released April 29 by Senate Democrats will do little to lessen concerns over whether Congress should try to pass such complex legislation in an election year with an already overcrowded congressional calendar. But spurred by Arizona's controversial new immigration law, the proposal has revived a serious congressional debate that has been dormant since the last effort failed in 2007.

What is striking about the outline is not so much the areas of known controversy, but the growing areas of consensus. Securing the borders? The plan calls for a continued build-up of manpower and technology, following five years in which the federal government has already doubled the Border Patrol and reduced by half or more the number of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border. Such proposals would have fit very comfortably in an all-Republican bill.

Workplace enforcement? The plan one-ups the rapidly expanding electronic verification system known as E-Verify and proposes an even more comprehensive scheme, in which employers would face big fines for violation. Compared with even a few years ago, there is stronger support in both parties for cutting off the jobs pipeline that still entices so many illegal migrants.

The Democrats also want passage of the DREAM Act to help children of illegal migrants brought here by their parents, and the AGJobs Act to reform the rules for foreign agricultural workers, two bills that would probably have passed already had they not been linked to comprehensive immigration reform. Attracting high-skilled workers by offering a green card for foreign students who earn graduate degrees in science and engineering from U.S. universities should enjoy broad public and congressional support. With innovation driving the U.S. economy, the importance of maintaining America's attractiveness as a magnet for the world's best and brightest is hard to overstate.]

But there is much that will be controversial. For example, replacing the current paper Social Security card with a biometric, fraud proof card that would become the only work authorization document for Americans was denounced by the American Civil Liberties Union as a scheme that would "usher government into the very center of our lives." Plans to create a national identification card did not survive the last big congressional debate on immigration reform in the early 1980s.

The most contentious issue remains what to do about the nearly eleven million unauthorized immigrants already in the United States. The proposal has a number of virtues, in particular the relative simplicity of immediate registration followed by an eight-year period in which they would need to earn a path to citizenship by demonstrating work history, progress in learning English, and payment of penalties. There is nothing in the scheme, however, likely to appease those who have denounced any form of earned legalization as an "amnesty."

The Democratic senators who unveiled the proposal called it a starting point, and acknowledged there was little chance of passage unless Republicans could be brought on board. It should be read in that light--as a serious first effort for reengaging on an issue that is vital to America's future.

Weigh in on this issue by emailing CFR.org.

That's true. If we would have just left it up to the white American patriots, I guarantee that Hispanic wouldn't be used as a label at all. There are so many slurs that work better...

That's true. We can blame political correctness for the fact that racial slurs against Jews, Italians, and the Irish are also frowned upon by most normal people.

Different debate, but quit saying "taxes" when you mean "income taxes".

Do I need to draw a Venn diagram?

or the 70% of the citizens who voted it in get it. it was voted in, done deal! organize a new legislation and go about changing it correctly. just like the prop 8 peeps here last year they just complain and claim hate/ racism until they get their way. go vote and change history the right way. az citizens/ voters voted it in fair and square. follow the same rules as everyone else. im so tired of whiny libs complaining. it passed, deal with it and organize a new bill, not claim racism and BS like that. so lame!

    oh my bleeding heart hurts!:protest:

It's totally ignorant to believe that they do not draw benefits that are not due to them.
