All I know is I love drinking pickle juice and cramps (though I rarely get them) are my fake excuse for guzzling the stuff.

No joke, as a kid I used to come home from school and raid the juice straight from the giant Price Club (Costco) pickle jars we had. Of course then I'd follow it up with a spoonful of peanut butter and sugar and go ride my bike till dark. Those were the days!

According to the study, it seems that it is the vinegar that is relieving the cramps.

I would imagine that anything with a moderate amount of vinegar will work...

Basic Mustard recipe...Ingredients: yellow mustard seeds -- coarsely ground, brown or yellow mustard powder, cold water, white wine vinegar -- or cider vinegar, salt

    Or...try these...

Very interesting that later in the article the same research group generated prior data showing that dehydration was not the cause of cramps, yet in this study they induced induced dehydration prior to inducing the cramps... I wonder why?

How many packets do you take? I tried 3 packets and it didn't work. I haven't been able to ride much so I have been getting cramps around the 12-14 mile mark. How much pickle juice (in oz) do you guys consume?

    Has anyone tried this? http://stopslegcramps.com/

This startlingly effective fast-acting organic and natural muscle remedy was discovered
by the Amish while they were still in Europe and brought to this country sometime
in the 1880's. We find it curious that it has never before been made generally
available to leg cramp and charlie horse sufferers until now especially, considering
that this Amish remedy is the fastest acting relief for leg cramps of any natural
    product anywhere.

    Ingredients:
A carefully balanced mixture of certified organic unfiltered raw apple cider vinegar,
juice from the ginger plant and just the right amount of all natural garlic juice in
special combination so as to achieve almost instant relief from leg, foot and hand
    cramps.

One bottle is usually enough for 2 to 3 months for most people.
(You only take it when you need it.)

For mustard, 2-4 packets, depending on the severity of the cramps.

I used to carry packets, now I just have a big bottle of French's in my Camelbak. No joke.

I still remember cramping at 12hr Temecula June 2008. Grabbed the pickle juice, chugged to find it was sweet pickle juice. Euew, nasty.

What if you don't have pickle juice handy? Has anyone tasted it warm?

Anyone try this: Pinch your philtrum, which is the area between your nose and upper lip, until the cramp is gone, which should take no more than a few seconds.

Found it a couple of months ago but haven't been able to try it cause I haven't cramped.

Good source for mustard packets: Smart & Final.

A box of 500 packets goes for less than $10.

Exactly, this is against the rules!!! Pickle juice and mustard give racers and weekend warriors an unfair advantage. Once is supposed to endure and enjoy the pain.
