My iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2, can't find the 510--it's on an endless device search. Any tips on getting them to pair up? I also tried my iPad but it can't see it either. Bluetooth is enabled on the Garmin. The 510 is brand new out of the box.

The Garmin Connect App for my Android has a lot of issues connecting to my 510. Sometimes it connects and sync's, but most of the time I have to kill the app/restart my phone. Haven't found a better solution or a update that has fixed this.

I have zero issues with this exact combination... The 510 finds my phone within a few seconds of turning it on. If I'm going out for a longer ride, I usually don't pair them and put the phone in airplane mode to save battery. That's my only issue... I've run out of battery on both devices, otherwise.

It doesn't have that choice on my Garmin. Only the device (my Garmin's name) and Smartphone are there once enabled is on. I selected Smartphone as you suggested but all it does is go to a page that has Forget Phone and Status: Disconnected.

What do you see in the Garmin Connect software on the iPhone?

What software, lol? Oh like an app, lol? ...I don't have that on my phone, lol. (hanging my head in embarrassment). I didn't know about needing that (didn't see that info anywhere in my booklet or on Garmin.com). I'll download it to phone and check. Thanks!

Ok, I got the app. I have Smartphone on list to join on the 510. The prob is that the iPhone is still doing that endless search for devices--any devices. I read some pairing instructions on the app and it sounded easy. I did what they said and am still waiting for iPhone to find the Garmin.

Do the standard power off and power on for the phone.
If I try to find it through bluetooth settings on the phone, it doesn't find it. Once I have Garmin Connect on the iPhone open then turn on the 510's bluetooth to sync (i keep it off to save battery life), a pop-up from Garmin connect app asks to connect to it.

My iPhone doesn't play well with Android, Microsoft or adobe.
Maybe just add garmin to the list?

Hallelujah, it works! Thanks for the tips guys…I don't know what the heck was done differently other than to delete the default 'Smartphone' on the Garmin's list and doing what MnMDan suggested (I did his tip earlier alone w/o the Smartphone deletion with no success). Once ' Smartphone' was deleted, the devices then found each other and asked about pairing, etc. Now everything is hunky-dory!

    Glad it's working... :)

I still use Strava, but haven't found an automatic upload solution. I connect the old fashioned way... with a cable and computer.

Thanks. I may have to get used to delayed gratification and upload my rides like that, lol. At least I got them paired.

I wish to report that with the help of a nice guy on mtbr, I was finally able to make it work with this flow: Garmin 510> manual upload via bluetooth to Garmin Connect app> auto-upload ride to Connectstats app (costs $.99) > manual upload via BT to Strava app. Setting up the log-ins was a pain. If that guy hadn't helped I would've been lost as there's no text on how to. I can barely even remember what I did to achieve it, lol. Uploads via mobile smoothly now.
