    Rode Idy this past saturday!

The Hub bike store in Idy has a saturday morning ride. Brendan is the store owner, builds bikes ,great rider. Many locals ride this ride and they are very proud of their trails. Many know that exactly a year ago a fire raged through the Hurkey Creek area, which is mostly still closed. Some people don't know that there are great trails on the west side of the city. The weather was perfect ,even a new forecast of possible showers. We
started from the store, 8 riders (including El Jim from big bear), up the main road (243) for about 2 miles. You are quickly reminded that you're at altittude.

    Great ST, a little damp
    [IMG]

Between a rock and a tree place. Lots of these situations to navigate
    [IMG]

    EL JIM climbing
    [IMG]

Large rocks and snaking ST, and of course hero dirt
    [IMG]

Short break with Brendan up front
    .

    Nice dark dirt...perfect
    [IMG]

We then started a section that was dryer, more shrub like sides. Nice rolling downhill with views of the valley
    [IMG]

When we reached the lower points there was this lush area. I think guys are looking at sasquatch
    .

    More great ST
    [IMG]

    More rock features to navigate
    [IMG]

Lots of Manzanita , beautiful brown bark
    [IMG]

Rock features scattered throughout the ride, some challenging especially for the first time
    .

There are several of these narrow sections, one so tight it would eat your r deraillier if not careful

We ended with a climb out on this nice ST, gradual but unrelenting
    [IMG]

More rock features to keep things interesting

Close to finishing. We finished with road back to the store. I stopped a little early to pick up my dtr at a camp she was at. This place is top 3-5 places IMO, too bad it wasn't a little closer!

    Great Pics!

Theres a man who gets very little recognition but deserves alot of credit for most of the trails up there. His name is Kenny aka the King of Idyllwild!

What's the pace of the ride? It looks great, but I wouldn't want to get dropped off the back or conversely, hold everyone up.

Thanks for posting. I really miss going out to Hurkey, so it's good to know there are other great trails out there.

Brendan called it advanced casual. No drops,at least a fair intermediate rider will do. Rest breaks, conversation.

That's always my fear when riding with new people, too. We need a rating system like they have in tennis, haha.
