I got my Park Tool DS-1 Scale in the mail today and was shocked when I realized how heavy my bike was! :-s

I started with my road bikes...

My 08 Specialized Allez was 19lbs, I was happy with that. My GF's 08 Specialized Dolce was 20lbs 7oz. Also not bad. Her Giant Aeryn TT bike was 21lbs 5oz, also acceptable. I was happy with those numbers.

I then went on to weigh my 08 Specialized Hardrock (with tons of light weight mods) and it came in at 27lbs 11oz!!! I always thought that it was somewhere between 20-25lbs. Pissed off, I tossed my GF's full suspension 09 Specialized Era on the scale thinking that it would definitely weigh more... it was only 26lbs... #-o

I'm seriously thinking about a new frame and some carbon now... i'm not really a weight weennie but 27+lbs is pretty freaking heavy for a hardtail...! ](*,)

Remember that the Hardrock is not meant to be a lite bike. Same with the Rockhopper. You want light HT from Spechy think Stump Jumper HT.

ha, the hardrock frame itself is 6.5 lbs in the large size. hell, you can get a steel frame in a XXL size and it'll be lighter than that. still, it's a bombproof frame, I've abused the crap outta mine.

    but onto weights:

ReignX: 35-38 lbs, depending on whether it's in AM or full DH configuration.

Trek FuelEX: 28.5 lbs. happy on this one

Black Mrkt Mob: 28lbs. heavy for a hardtail, but light for a burly DJ

the 29er I'm building: 23 at max, depending on what frame I get.

My hardtail comes in at 29 lbs... mainly due to the 500HT Motobecane frame... Full XT drivetrain with Fox RL 100 forks and carbon stem and bars...

I have a 3.2 lb Jamis Komodo frame waiting to get the components hung on it. Just need another set of forks ;-)

I don't get the whole mountain biking obsession with weight thing. So the bike needs to be lighter just because you know how much it weighs now? Bikes are like girlfriends, if they look damn good and are fun to ride, who cares how much they weigh...
