I rode fully yesterday morning at 700AM and finished about 830 am, I was fine while I was riding. I have hydrated myself the day before and before riding in the morning,I ate banana and bread drank bottle of gatorade and about .5 liter of water before the ride and 2 liters while riding, I got home and feeling sick and tired and headache (feels like headache from lack of sleep) felt like i was gonna throw up.so i ate just to see what happens after eating and i drank about 2 glass of water but unfortunately it didnt help at all. headache disappear after eating dinner :?:

this is not the first time happened, I would say everyride at FULLY i get a headache but yesterday was the worse, i felt like i had a flu, i wanted to throw up and tired just wanna lay down and do nothing! i woke up this morning and i was fine!!
is it normal to feel tired after riding?(as in like tired and lazy)
I don't know about the headache, i was actually thinking about the long downhill, I ride HT and you know how it vibrates in rough downhill, shaked my whole body especially my head. or it could be my helmet, it fits but it's a little tight.(does it have to be tight or loose?)
    am i the only one?

i used to have the same feeling....a headache that would not go away. my bro, a e.r. doc, told me to just take some ibuprofen...i told him that i tried that and it didn't help. he shrug'd his shoulders. :(

so, i took it upon myself to figure it out. i'd drink plenty of water. i use to drink some water, maybe gatorade or cyctomax during rides. didn't help much.

then, i added a bottle of fresh lemonade, with some sugar and salt added to it. drank that post ride. that helped me feel much better.

now, i just use hammer perpetuem (2-3 scoop per bottle per hour) and add either endurolytes (powder electrolyte by hammer) or elete (a liquid electrolyte made from sea salt) and add the recommended dosage to each bottle for ea hour. i add a bit extra if it's hot out.

no probs since.....i personally think you have a electrolyte deficiency, that can cause a headache. drinking water will hydrate you, but it also dilutes the electrolyte in you body.

now, after long hard rides, if i feel crappy i just have a pepsi or coke at home and feel much better. no more headaches though. i think my low blood pressure does factor into that crappy feeling sometimes...it usually hovers around 110/55.

i told my bro all of the above and he just rolled his eyes. damn docs. ;)

hope this helps and you feel better.

Happens to me after epic rides where I push it really hard. Feel sick and shivery, usually take a shower and sleep for a bit and then feel fine and am starving. I was thinking it was "exercise induced nausea"?????

my wife was having the same problem for a while after playing tennis - mostly just on hot days - whereby she would have a terrible headache after exercising. she has below average blood pressure. i gave her some of my endurolytes to take before and after, and that helped quite a bit. don't run out of fuel - if you run on fumes or on a bad mixture for too long you'll bonk.

If you have never checked out Hammer Nutrition's site, and knowledge base, do yourself a favor and do some reading. Here's an excerpt:

Electrolytes are analogous to the motor oil in your car - it doesn't make the engine run, but it's absolutely necessary to keep everything running smoothly. Proper functioning of the muscular, digestive, nervous, and cardiac systems depends on adequate electrolyte levels. Cramping is like the oil light on the dash; you never want it to get that low. When you've got smoke coming from the engine, as I did in the '95 RAAM, your race is over and your day is done.

Using something like Hammer nutrition HEED, Enduralites, or even recoverite will make the difference. Part of the issue around hydration is your body's need and ability to hydrate your muscles quick enough and efficiently enough during rigourous workouts or activities.

Though the supplements mentioned above are some of the best for cycling needs, another trick is to include a meal that has a good amount of sodium in it before you ride. The sodium will make your muscles need the water that you have poured in you and they will work more efficiently to get it. This is not the best way, but it does help and costs less than the supplements which can be cost prohibitive for some riders.

If so a post ride beer could take the edge off:?:.

Evaluate your breathing, posture, and post ride routine closely. Might be pushing too hard for your current level of conditioning. :-k

It sounds like classic heat exhaustion.
Same thing happened to me last week. I did not hydrate properly before the ride and it was warm out AND I was trying to stay in the middle chainring on a long steep ride. I was not a happy camper as the day/evening progressed.

I have been dealing with the same monster headaches for the last three months. I had all but given up hope, but I am going to try some of these suggestions.

    water and electrolytes.

all depends on diet and your personal physiology.

if anyone would like to try hammer products, talk to one of the troupe riders at an event or group ride - we have TONS of hammer samples to hand out. heed, perpetuem, gels, endurolytes and recoverite in all flavors.
