Hi I just sold my cross country ex 9 to get something a little more capable. I would like to get a freeride bike with climbing abilities becasue all the riding I do I must climb to the top. I have a freestyle bmx backround so the bike needs to be able to hit some cool stuff as well.
I would need a medium size frame. thinking I can spend around 3000 give or take a little depending on bike.
Anyone on str have a bike like this? or know of one? thanks

It sounds like you want more of a heavy duty all-mountain bike. Something that can climb up and then rip the downhill. I would look at the Santa Cruz Nomad, GT Sanction, Trek Remedy or Scratch, Yeti 575 or ASR7.

Santa Cruz/Trek, WAY overpriced. Go Giant Reign X, Intense, Kona (best deal for the buck).

Another good option in your price range would be an 09 Intense SS (the 2010's are more bike park specific)

    -low standover
    -slack head angle
-climbs well for a 6.5" travel bike

I rode mine for a year and a half and used it for everything from long XC rides to shuttle runs and it did everything well.

Another more expensive option would be a Mojo HD, I can't comment on how it rides till mine comes in next week.

It's the engine that does the climbing. Find a bike with the descending capabilities you want then get stronger.

I have a Niner RIP at home and since now I am in Hawaii for school I bought a Giant Reign X1 from someone out here and it is an awesome bike. Not a fan of the Marz 55 but the frame is nice. I ride up a hill to a DH spot and it has no problems. That is with Platform pedals and a full face helmet hanging off my handle bars. I also got it for $800.

I just saw this on CL:

Although Giant is great value for money I have to say my Santa Cruz is the best bike I have ever ridden.

As long as you don't need an XL. They seem to be one of those companies who think everyone who rides is a midget.

Look at the Diamondback Mission 3, great bang for the buck and can take a beating, plus it has the hammershmidt crank.
