They say it's a small brush fire, but it looks much bigger than that. The cloud of smoke is huge and getting bigger.

    Story:

    http://glendora.patch.com/articles/small-brush-fire-burning-in-san-gabriel-mountains

A small fire has broken out in the mountain areas north of Glendora and San Dimas.

The one-half acre fire was reported some time after 2 p.m. near mile marker 2 near East Fork Road. The cause of the fire has not been revealed. Power lines in the mountain areas have already been affected, according to scanner reports.

According to a deputy at the scene, one line has fallen down, and another was seen on fire.

Authorities are working to evacuate patrons at the San Gabriel River and are shutting down Highway 39 at East Fork Road.
Officials have requested Glendora Police to shut down a portion of Glendora Mountain Road northbound.

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST - A brush fire broke out Sunday in the Angeles National Forest north of Glendora, authorities said.
The blaze, which possible began as a car fire, began sending smoke into the sky shortly before 3 p.m. from East Fork Road, a little more than two miles east of San Gabriel Canyon Road, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Kirk Smith said.
The Camp Williams Resort and River Community rehabiliation center were evacuated as a precaution, along with those recreating in the area Sunday afternoon, Smith said.
The fire had reportedly scorched several acres, however U.S. Forest Service personnel were not available to comment on the fire, which sent a large plume of smoke that could be seen from miles away.
Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters were sent to assist U.S. Forest Service firefighters, however the agency deferred all questions to their federal counterparts.

If it gets into Sheep Wilderness they are limited in want they can do to fight it...very remote rugged county area. If that happens it could go all the way over to Wrightwood.

Quote from wildlandfire.com: "For a flavor of the fire area. If it continues to burn north, it will burn into the 2003 Curve Fire. 9 year old chaparral. The area is as steep as anywhere I have fought fire and has very limited access to vehicles. Engines will be useful along East Fork Rd and Hwy 39 but minimal access to the interior of the area. This should be primarily a fireline and air tanker show. Unless the winds really kick up this fire should be primarily driven by topography."

Bummed to read about this. Yesterday, I rode Lower Monroe TT off of Glendora Mountain Road up to where it connects to Glendora Mtn Road again near the intersection with East Fork / GRR. First time on the dirt up there, it was a nice singletrack climb--about 15 miles and 2500 feet or so. I don't think I suffered as much as if I would've done Blackstar or Maple which used to be easy for me but I haven't been doing 2k+ climbs for a while.

Just got back from a road ride attempt from Wrightwood with Ryan. Was raining small ash flakes at the parking lot by the info center but looked like it would be better toward Dawson. Was not too bad up to Blue Ridge but once over the top the smoke got thicker and was pretty acrid at Vincent Gap. The climb up to Dawson the smoke was quite a bit thinner but by the last mile both of us were pretty plugged up and not breathing well. Lots of thick brown smoke clinging to the mountain on the Glendora side.

Found out fire was started by a car fire. Not good but if headed north no structures should be in harms way
