Here I am thinking the day of silence was a way to encourage observance of Memorial Day.

Whatever the reason for this Day of Silence, I didn't like it, there was nothing on t.v. last night, this site was down, so I had no choice but eMTyBeeR.

Thank you for the perspective. And thanks to George for including everyone in the "timeout", it was the fair and right thing to do.

I tried to log in late last night not knowing it had already started and was dissapointed in seeing the day of silence message. I would really miss this site if it weren't here tomorrow.

BTW Burner, don't bother joining any of my rides. They will only send you crawling home with your stinky little doohikey tucked firmly between your legs.:)

I don't know about anyone else, but I got sucked into watching the Memorial Day Movie Marathon on AMC last night. Watching those old war movies like "Von Ryan's Express", "The Longest Day", "The Sand Pebbles", "Sahara" kinda puts in perspective how hollywood has changed since then. Somehow they managed to make good movies without CGI, and overpowering digital surround sound. I didn't end up going to sleep til 3:00 am....

I didn't even notice the site was offline until late evening.

Upside: People shush for a few hours.

Down side: If you're trying to arrange to pick up a part you can't wait to get a hold of and you're waiting for a PM back so you can meet up in the morning you're F'd, even though you've never created drama and are a financial supporter of the site.

Joe, no one wants to see you parade around in your S&M suit. Keep your fetishes to yourself.

Hey, what the hell? Where did you find that pic of me and my fire red-headed play mate, Sam? I better start paying more mind while in public places. Obviously, you couldn't see my face. The arss and boda bag must have given me away.

Despite what I said earlier, after having some time to give it perspective, I came to a conclusion: I'm now a little hesitant referring people to this site, because it may be "shut down" at any time by the whims of its owner. It was also a bummer that private messages and the calendar were also shut down. I have learned to not rely on these anymore.

Good. You shouldn't be relying on them. George doesn't offer any sort of guaranteed uptime for anything. Put your favorite riding peeps in your cell phone.

I've avoided posting in here for so long, biting my lip, cause I tend to come off like an a$$hat when I'm all charged up. Oh well...

I'm going to begin by acknowledging that everyone is entitled to their opinion about this stuff. It's good that everyone communicate how they feel and we keep things open--even if it means digressing into temporary childhood. I feel like this place has become a huge therapy session.

2wheel, if you are going to stop recommending people here because of one stop-gap measure taken by the guy who pays all the bills, fine. If you think that one action overrides all the other positives this place has, then I'm sorry you never got a chance to fully integrate and enjoy the community. We will welcome you back with open arms whenever you change your mind.

To everyone else: pop a xanax 8-[, drink a sixer of your favorite brew , go for a ride, all of the above :-k, or do whatever else you do to chill out. On the scale of the universe, we are all infinitesimally small undetectable blips on the number line. Take advantage of the time you have and enjoy it.

Finally, dammit, go grab your friends (or make new ones) and ride the snot out of your bikes. Be sure to take lots of pictures and post up ride reports.

Edit: Regarding my comment of George "paying the bills"--I do recognize that members may choose to support the site financially. I just don't believe that anyone should expect entitlement for doing so. That isn't the spirit of the place, in my own opinion.

Sometimes we must come to hard conclusions in our lives. I admire your courage.

We were all a little lost without the calendar.

it was offline only for around 12 hours....not that big of a deal imho. so many people on here are acting like this website is oxygen, and you can't carry on with regular life as you know it without www.socaltrailriders.org being up and running...seriously, is it that big of a deal?

    and, well said mark.

I still don't know what the doo hickey things about.

I was setting up a transaction when bam my $hit went down.

If the site was under maintenance that is understandable.
But I got no warning so I didn't have the persons number to call if the site was down.

To make things a bit more streamline in the future a warning would be nice.
or just close the forums and let is use out mail boxes and PMs .

Of all people I understand how the Mods need a break some times. I have had to work crazy hrs with no breaks. I am on here enough and I can't read everything on here . Not even close. They must have burning eyes trying to keep up.

Lets all forget about it and play nice. I know it's a little shocking to have the site you love be down. I know if google maps shut down for a night or craigslist people would be freaked out too. Lets just not have it happen again? ;)

    My pledge of allegiance

Wow, 12 hours without STR. I was sleeping in my truck on the way home from Angel Fire. I tried to logon once from Rog's Iphone and saw the message.

I do and will always love STR. I have met many new friends and gone on more awesome rides in the last 1 1/12 years than I have in the previous 20. There will always be nonsense and stuff that doesn't interest me so I will just pick and choose what to read and when to reply.

Just as I refuse to stop traveling to ride because of gas prices, I refuse to give up on STR because of a few annoying issues.

George, thank you for you continued vision and moderators, thanks for keeping us in line. We appreciate you all!!!!!!!!
