Posted also at mtbr....but thought this might help out.
Crystal backcountry is closed to all public use-hiking, biking and equestrian. This includes all direct and indirect access into the park. Please call (949) 494-3539 for more information. Thanks for your cooperation in keeping everything safe. I will try to repost when we open up.

We will keep the park closed for a few days after it rains.

All parks will be closed because of rain. I changed the title to reflect why so it doesn't cause a panic and everyone thinks it's closing for good due to state budget cuts.

There are some nice trails there. You and your your friend should come out and join the rides SHARE has scheduled. I doubt there will be any riding this Tuesday. Check the SHARE website for dates and times. http://sharemtb.com/

I called the park and made sure it was due to weather and just changed the title.

If we get as much rain as expected that park will remain closed for awhile. After the last El Nino rains, about 5 years ago, El Moro was closed for months. The ruts in the fireroad where axle deap.

Might be a good idea since it's suppose to stop raining Friday, but the park will still be closed for 72 hrs after it stops raining due to muddy conditions. I've TAV'd before from the main gate to turn people away. Winter said we could do this so you can still get credit.

    CCSP update

    Hey All!
Just wanted to update you on CCSP and offer a few insights. The trails are going to remain closed for a while. Probably until next weekend. While working yesterday, 2 riders came down through the trails and buzzed right pass me. As an AVID mountain biker-it really bums me out that fellow riders are so totally disrespectful of the park rules and so totally selfish. We keep the trails closed for a reason. If you get hurt we cannot access you-the State vehicles cannot get into the backcountry right now. If you ride in the mud and create major ruts-when those ruts dry-inexperienced mountain bikers get caught in them and break arms and collarbones (I have had to rescue several in this situation). So stay off the trails. Put you mountain bike in a big gear and go do laps on Newport Coast. Many of you who post and read here are super respectful mtn bikers and I appreciate you staying off the trails until we can get them back into safe condition.

As someone who is totally bumb'd to not ride this last weekend due to trail conditions, it burns me to hear of people that were out ripping up my favorite trails. I spoke with a few bikers last weekend that were telling me about ripping it up and bogging around in the mud at Aliso...not cool. I told them it irked me that the few that are out there ripping stuff up are going to ruin it for the multitudes for a long time. Good luck to park staff patrolling our favorite trails during this time.

stinky180's suggestion about TAV's "guarding" the trailhead probably needs to become the protocol. i'll pm ranger winter about it.

Tink is correct. TAV's are encouraged to hang out at the parking lot or Ridge Park to help "educate' people about why the park is closed after rain.

If those who chose to ride on our sensitive trails in the mud would just come out for one day of trail repair, they would never do it again.

    Closed for weeks?

With Laguna Coast said to be opening, I called Crystal Cove to check on their status. The ranger explained that 'significant work' was needed before the trails would be reopened. Said it would take weeks.

Today rode my bike along the cliffs in Crystal Cove and talked to the El Moro Trail Crew. They are working the roads and trails in El Moro today and he thought they will have the work done by this weekend. The trail crew are youngsters and ride the park so they are in a hurry to get it open.
