What's the average price of installing a hitch on car. I got quoted for 230.00 out of the door. Is this a reasonable price? Your experiences?

    $230 includes the hitch right?

    i'd say that's what, 80, maybe 100 for labor?

that's a little much. I installed mine myself (with very little experience with stuff like that) and i would have paid $20 and a case of beer for someone else to do it.

Yeah that includes the hitch, as well as shipping.

    Check w/U-Haul

They will install for $20-$30 bucks and the cost of the hitch will probably be half of what you were quoted.

That was my experience when I had one installed a couple of years ago.

I had it done for $200 (including the hitch) in the Bay Area. After seeing it installed, I wished I would have just done it myself. #-o It is super easy.

80 ~ 100 bucks an hour is a typ. shop rate these days.

I agree with checking with U Haul. No one does more then them. Or do like davidb and get on yer back and bolt it on. Nothing really hard about it.

It can depend on your car and the hitch. Pep boys said they'd install mine for $50 and the hitch costs $130 plus tax. U haul told me $211 for both. With tax there's not much diff.

If it's a bolt up kit it should be pretty easy. Jack up the rear of the car, drop the exhaust, bolt up the kit, reinstall exhaust. If it's a weld on kit then I suck at that.

Mine was super easy to install. No need to take off exhaust or anything, just bolt it up.

a vehicle like that, that was designed with a hitch to be added later is a breeze to install yourself. Most likely it's just 4 holes that you put 4 bolts into. Most vehicles are like that. Really simple stuff.

I'm going to put a hitch on the Prius. Is that a hassle or hard?

It depends on what kind of car you own.

I drive a Toyota Sienna. My husband ordered hitch online and installed himself. Just four bolts and wiring. It was a snap.

My husband drives a Ford Escape. He looked into installing himself and discovered it had to be welded. He decided to have it done at U-Haul, which had the best price.

I went to U haul, was quoted $160 installed on my Jetta. They ordered the hitch, called me when it came in and I went over to have it installed. The guy installing it was new, and the manager was busy with other customers, so I installed it while the new guy watched, with U Hauls rack, jig, drills , bits and air wrenches. Done in 30 minutes, had to put the bumper skin back on and do a little trimming.

It's easy if you have the proper tools and time, a hassle if you don't have the tools and you want to install yourself. The manager gave me $60 back, since he said I trained his new employee on hitch installations.

Like everyone has said, if its bolt on, its crazy to pay a mechanic to do it. Heck, I'd do it for you for a 4 pack of boddingtons (if its a bolt on).

I got a bolt on for my Toyota Matrix and it works / looks great no modification necessary.

The aftermarket hitches have gotten a lot better with installations fitting the vehicle you have. I have installed a few and its SUPER easy... Takes about a 1/2 hour and I would give it a ONE Beer on the scale. Its nothing more than a bolt on product. They use existing holes in the cars frame to install. I say go for it and do it yourself!!!
