I think Marshall Canyon is actually is part of LA County parks which also maintains Bonelli. Marshall only ties into Claremont at the top and if you want to make a loop you need to do only a short portion of Claremont. Oops after rereading your post I see you know it is part of LA County Parks. I was there last night and there are NO signs indicating it is closed and the gates are open. They occassionly will lock the gates during rain. I know this really didn't give the answer you were looking for but it's what I have. You may try the LA Police who patrol the area. There is a substation at Bonelli.

P.S. I saw signs of grading being done on Claremont. It would be my guess that it reopens soon.

There are a couple juvenile detention camps in Marshall Canyon (Camps Paige and Afflerbaugh) and I've seen the kids out maintaining the trails in the past. You can sometimes hear them counting off during their PT workouts... if you don't know they're down there is sounds like some eerie chanting.

The number on the LA County website (909-593-3036)... I've never had anybody answer it.

L A County DWP (specifically, flood control) has the key to the gate on Orangewood (the place where all the Oak-Mesa-parking-people enter). During and after some rains, I have found that gate closed and locked. Don't know if that helps...

Claremont is reopening on Friday morning. I think that would be the 14th.

I rode there today and last Friday and I can tell you that it is open. The website may say closed but when I rode by the ranger on patrol and the 5000 other people nobody said it was closed.

It has been open since Friday. Still acouple of trees laying down across the path coming down from potatoe mtn. I talked to a park ranger up there taking picts of the trees. And he said they would be sending a crew up there to clear the path. But it is open. Have a nice ride to all going there.

Just a heads up about CWP...my housemate rode there today and said he saw the police ticketing all the cars parked on the street area between the 2 parking lots. I think there might be new signs up about no parking. Not good!! Just be aware.

I was there this morning also, between 8 and 10, and I didn't see any signs. I didn't park in the lots though, so maybe I just didn't see them. Or they closed it later in the day. The gate was open and there were about sixty hikers and 8-10 bikers. If you find out anything more, please keep us posted....so I don't ride from Ontario and find it closed.

He said it was on the street itself where everyone normally parks between the lower and upper lot at the trailhead....not sure if it's still called Mills once you pull up that way. Will try to check tomorrow or anyone else please let us know? I ride over when I go so haven't had to worry about parking before but feel bad for all those getting tickets..

I was up there today. It looks like they have doing a little road repair along the edge of the road(where everyone parks). Just don't park along the road and you will be good to go.

That's a marshall canyon entrance, and you probably meant Dept of Public Works, and not Dept of Water and Power, right?

Wow, we rode by there a couple times this last weekend and without exaggeration there were over 100 cars parked on the street between the lots. I always thought of Claremont as an accommodating city to it's residents and provided a really nice park with lots of room there at CWP. Now they switch gears and do something like this....what a freekin shame. A lot of the people who go there don't know of Marshall and if they find it, well, it's way over crowded now with the bikers and equestrians. If all those hikers were to move over there the park would be ruined.

What your roomate is probably talking about is that there are some "no parking" signs along the east side of the street buy the houses, and I believe they just recently put up "no parking" signs on the west side of the street just before the upper parking lot. I think it was due to alot of cars getting stuck in that area because if you get off the pavement the ground drops off and I've seen alot of cars get high centered and cant get out.
Also, I've seen cars get ticketed and towed because they block the access gate to the spillway.
I would have to say that the people who are getting ticketed or towed, that it's their own dumb fault because they're to lazy to walk just a little further.
