Rode there this AM. Sweet conditions--nice and tacky. The North Ridge's east end is kind of a drag as they must've bulldozed the fireroad for a couple miles heading west. A little soft so climbing was hindered. The west portion is fast and fun though. South Ridge is nice and smooth, great climbing and descending.

    Thanks.
Did they finish the new "bridge" over the washout toward the bottom of Northridge? They were starting on it the other day after a horse fell off the trail.

If you mean that drop-off edge that's about 100 yds up from the bottom, yes, it looks like a new barrier made of 2x4s has been installed. I didn't know about the horse falling off--that's sad.

Are you sure that's where the horse fell?

I zoomed up North Ridge that day so I could avoid all the rangers, firemen, news crews and photographers who were swarming around down in Telegraph. There was no sign of anything up North ridge other than me, the hawks, and the lizards.

Has anyone ridden CHSP lately? I wanted to ride tomorrow 12/29 but I don't know if the trail is closed or not. I usually start from the Telegraph side.

I rode a week ago on Wednesday. It was OK - a little soggy here and there, and a small herd of Herfords running around, but otherwise fine.

I was out for an early afternoon CHSP ride, and YOU have to get out there soon! Everything is turning green, not a muddy area in site, and the soil was fresh and tacky. Starting at Vesuvius>up Northridge>down McDurmont/tower single track>Four Corners>Up Raptor>back to Four Corners>across Bovinian>east on Southridge>crossed back to Bovinian>West on Telegraph>up Sycamore>down Northridge>home.

Get out there before the (killer) weeds start growning and it all dries up. Well, you still have a few months, but still-don't wait!

    Watch out on CHSP Northridge

Started up Northridge on Sat. Noticed the new fence built around the old wash out - Nice. About three drainage swales had been built near the bottom for run off - Nice. Down Raptor, the cows haven't been kind here while the soil was soft.

Up Southridge, Tele, Up Sycamore (trying to run over as many baby Milkweed Thistle plants as possible before they go into attack mode)

Back down Northridge, Prob the best downhill in the park. Get toward the bottom, and oh sh*t forgot about those nice little swales that at speed are now serious jumps. You don't really see the first until you are right on it.

Came off it kind of half cocked into the scrub but was able to save it barely. Some here will prob dig it, but be prepared

Yep, I've seen a couple guys go down on the first swell, it jumps up at ya. They are probably a good thing as they will slow most noobs down before the ridiculous barricade that follows.

I was there about a week and a half ago and didn't notice the swales (a new word for me) were they put in since then? Maybe I was going so slow they weren't a factor, lol. I saw the 2 x 4 fence around the washout, that's been there for a bit--does that sound like the one you're referring too? In any case, thanks for the heads up.

That washout has been a pain in the ass for years. They get it fixed then it washes out in the first rain. They probably "fixed it" this past week. -Lloyd

Yup, they still catch me off guard, but they can be some sweet jumps!

Rode there today and conditions were great..first time I've been there for a few years. Did Up Northridge->McDermott->4 Corners->Raptor->Faultline->Sidewinder->Bane Ridge->up Southridge->Down Bovinian Delight->down Telegraph. I'd get out there soon before things get overgrown!

Does anyone know the condition of East Fence Line? I rode that trail once probably 8 or 9 years ago and when I attempted it again about 3 years ago it was literally impassable with overgrowth.

I think it's technically on the map, but the last time I was over there it was unridable.

I ride here about twice a week. Its hot/dry with no shade as far as the eye can see.....about what you would expect. Most trails are rideable with not too much sand or loose stuff though. Some of the single track like Corral and Lower Aliso is getting overgrown so wear long pants or use bug spray...ticks...
