    How was it?

I wasn't able to race but I rode to the aid station at the bottom of HJ and helped with filling up peoples waters and giving away my tubes and lube. Great to see many of you out there.
    Points of interest:
    - Manny came in with a flat rear and no chain. Called it quits at HJ
    - From what I heard Tinker missed UHJ
    - Was the record broken?

After Jeremiah comes through the station earlier than anyone thought...
    In fly's Tinker!
Next in...I believe this is Cameron, haulin on the SS
    [IMG]
Manny coasts in after breaking his chain twice and flatting
    [IMG]
Honorable mention: BMX Mulisha setting a great pace for even someone on an MTB!
Chris from RnR headed out to tackle Horsethief...
Not much time to take more when the aid station packed up, quenching peoples thirst became more of a priority.

    Great job everyone.

spoiler alert - JB sets a course record at 4:45, tinker #2 but may have accidently gone off course, manny breaks a chain and cameron is back blazing on the SS (unofficial info from me)

I did CC and came in a whisker under 5 hours (that was my goal and I reached it by 30 seconds) :bang:

Wow those are crazy fast times, holy gawd. I just got home. I am freaking knackered. 1.5 hours of sleep and 6:45 on the rigid singlespeed for CC (I was up late last night posting film cuts & have to make a tweak on it right now, only reason I'm on the computer).

I'm super delirious right now and on my 2nd Dogfish Head 90, but here are some bits of the day. It was pretty chilly at the start - like an inverted cold layer sitting at the bottom of Black Star. By the first cattle grate it was significantly warmer (and still dark out). The climb up Black Star was really cool in the pitch black - some riders had some crazy bright lights with them & one guy had some trippy blinky blue Mickey Mouse ears on his helmet. Perhaps next year I'll get the e-wire out from my Burning Man storage & wrap my bike.

A couple of miles up Black Star I realized I had left my Gel-Bot bottle with 6 scoops of Perpetuum on the rear bumper of my rig & I freaked out a bit & even considered turning around to get it as I was pretty much running on fumes anyway with so little sleep...but I had a good feeling that I'd find a water bottle on the route. At the Beeks gate I asked the WS crew if they had an empty Gatorade bottle or the like so I could mix up one of my 3 packs of Perpetuum in my pack & the girl (dang I can't remember her name but THANK YOU!!!) gave me her Vitamin Water bottle. Stoked! And then sure enough right after the golf ball there was a water bottle lying smack dab in the middle of the fire road. Perfect.

Motorway was in awesome shape - that trail is so fun. Maple was the usual grind. The climb from 4 Corners to the peak was plagued with the black gnats - the only good thing I can say about them is that they keep you moving. Upper Holy Jim seemed chunkier than I remember (rigid doesn't help, and on top of that I'm nursing a slightly separated wrist and greenstick-fractured metacarpal so I rode with a wrist brace and a tube of IB Relief cream). And of course the ride out down Trabuco is hell.

Anyway, it was a killer day to be out there. HUGE thanks to Warriors Society and everyone else making this event so fun & fluid & organized. I'm going to grab a few more IPA's and soak my bones in the jacuzzi.

    CHEERS!!!

Spoiler #2: New CC course record too at 3:53, but my apologies - I don't recall the top finishers' names.

Surprised that a mere chain break was enough to knock Manny out of the top 5. He couln't use his superpowers to fuse the broken link?

I finished the CC a whole lot slower than Deja Vu and missed my "I want to finish by" time by 11 freaking seconds. Those 11 seconds are gonna haunt me for a while! Still a great day out there. No crashes, but one serious mechanical: My iPod died while climbing Maple! I reckon that cost me at least 11 seconds ;)

Huge thanks to the all the friends, family members, and of course the awesome volunteers who all make the Pow Wow such a special day. Congrats to all the riders who faced the challenge.

Quickflip - thanks for the pics and info on the fast guys. The other thread mentioned Manny breaking a chain, but I figured it had to be more than that to know him out of the top 5 - and it sure was!

Here is some rand and rave

    Actually just a suggestion.

Why there was no sign or ribbon to show which way is the correct way upper and lower holly jim. For a long time i thought "Am i on the wrong way?"
And some sign would be helped to find the race group in Oneil park .

That would be Rachel aka GeorgiaOfTheJungle

Call Sherry at Switchback and she will mail you one.

There were people stationed at the top of UHJ and a truck at the bottom. If you started to head the wrong way, he would have stopped you. There also was a crew at the top of LHJ. Not sure how much clearer that could be.

Manny had a broken chain and two flats. Elaine Gold, who just finished Chemo in November, I think, made the cut-off for the CC and finished. Debbie, who did the UltraQuest last week (the only woman to finish) completed the VQ today....

No major injuries. One flat with the support staff (in the FJ, at the end). Any other interesting stories out there??? I'm looking forward to your RR threads :)

    That was me
Funny, we found a water bottle, too. I thought of you, but it was a LONG time after you had passed and it was at the top of 4corners.

Congrats to all who pushed their limits out there today! You all did a fabulous job!!

I had the exact same thing happen to me! Right before starting my 1st VQ, I realized I left my Hammer Gel Flask and my Heed/Perpetuem solution on our kitchen counter! So, basically I ran on 2 GUs that my husband gave me, and water 'til the 1st Aid Station. It didn't seem to deter me too much tho, mostly due to all the support I got being the girl on the SS (which I really appreciated), and all the beautiful scenery. I started to feel it, tho, coming up Maple, but tried to keep a pretty good clip to leave enough time to hit the VQ Cutoffs (I knew I'd be lagging by the time I got to climbing Trabuco & WHT, which I did). Just when I thought I was almost done with WHT, seemingly miles more of that trail magically appeared, as the guys closer to the top of it looked like tiny little dots. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have nightmares about that trail. I wish I could've stomached a burger, they smelled so delicious, but I passed and took in some ice-cold Gatorade, which went down ok. My arms & back were screaming down Trabuco, almost as loudly as my brakes, but I finished with a smile on my face, and dirt in my teeth, as it should be!:) Thanks to all the volunteers, and to all the amazing riders out there. Mt-bikers are some of the coolest people I've ever met.
