Been out of town for a little while, so I finally got a chance to do Car Wreck this afternoon. Fun little trail. Definitely makes you pay attention.

Thanks to everyone who made the trail possible. It is really a great addition to Aliso.

I have a 6" bike and I was very humbled on my first ride. I just dont see getting down the last section before the car. Ill keep trying though.

PS: I was there for the trail work and if you have any problems about trail work in any parks I would highly recommend getting involved. It gave me a great deal of incite on the purpose and actions of the staff. If you are in any kind of opposition you can have direct impact in the outcome at the time. It was very rewarding and Im so glad i was involved.

I agree with staying to the left. There is an area where the left line wants to start taking you right but you should fight that "natural" line and go left or you will go to the same place I went in the videos (to the right)

Then when you pass the car and enter the area by the tree, STAY HIGH AND RIGHT and go over the rocks to avoid hitting the tree. I may have refered to it before, but the first time I rode the trail I went high and right and cleaned the tree area easily (as seen in the video). The second time I was following someone and rode there line to the left. I ended up having to put a foot down to avoid getting contact with the tree (as seen in the video). (I've seen someone actually hit the tree and go down taking the left line)

I just hate random sunsets. Especially when they happen during the middle of the day.

Now that it's been open for a while, I really want to ride it, and since rain is expected this weekend, Aliso will be closed on the weekend! So I am going tomorrow instead! My question is, where is it located? I heard that it starts somewhere near the top of mathis, but is it marked? Also, is it a loop, or just dh to the bottom? Where does it let out, and does anyone know how long car wreck trail is? Thanks in advance! :)

It is on Mathis about 100 yards from the top off to the right and well marked. Enjoy, grasshopper ... it's in great shape!

Moved your post to the thread regarding opening day. It is located near the top of Mathis and comes out at Oak Grove which is the trail at the bottom of Mathis. It's not a loop, but a DH like Lynx, Rock It. Not a very long trail compared to Rock It, but more technical and steeper. It is marked like all legal trail are at Aliso.

I seem to be having the same issues with video degradation when posted to Youtube. I notice that some of the videos are a resolution of 360p and others are 720p. Anyone know the reason?????

I've called the number for trail conditions several times, and the first recorded voice says all trails are open, but then when I press 4 (which also give trail conditions) it says the trails are closed! Which is it? I want to ride there tomorrow (Friday, 11/26/10) ) but I don't want to drive the 50 miles to get there, only to find it closed! I would think that it should be open tomorrow, since it hasn't rained for a few days now. Does anyone know if it will be open, or did anyone ride there yesterday or today? Thanks!

It rained here, hard, yesterday morning. And the OC Parks generally stay closed for 2 days after the rains. I'd say use your best judgement. Or, just wait until the weekend, which would be a solid 3 days.

I'll take your word for it.

I do like to check various weather sources daily, and I just checked the Tustin and Aliso weather for the past
14 days, and it shows that the last time it rained was on Sunday, 11/21.

We all know that weather forecasts are not always right when predicting *future* weather, but when they post weather results of previous days, I would think they would get it right, since they could actually then post what had already happened. Maybe not.

    Same thing for Aliso Viejo:

I live about 10 minutes by bike from the entrance and it rained all night and heavy in the morning. The rest of the day yesterday was so so and today it was sunny but not warm.

That is just really strange that no weather services reported ANY rain at all in that area since last Sunday! Amazing they still have jobs, having reported 100% the opposite of what you say, which obviously must be true since you live there!

Hmm, then it couldn't have rained yesterday, or the day before for that matter, since Aliso rangers are anal about closing the trails, usually for a good 2 days after it rains. Now I'm really confused, based on the previous, seeminlgy conflicting posts.

And there's no way to get a concrete answer by calling 949-923-2200; first recorded message says trails are open...but option #4 which is more detailed trail conditions, says they're all closed! No live person to confirm. I guess I'll have to just go and hope it's open!
