Just wondering if anyone knows the current conditions of the road (I believe it's 22s12) that drops you off at Big Meadow.

Don't know if it has a certain closing date, or anything else up there that might be affecting it.

Thanks in advance for any info you can pass on,
    -tep

I called my brother who works at the Kernville Workstation, but could not get a hold of him, but will relay the information when he calls back. Generally they close the road in late October to mid November depending on the weather. Since the weather has been really nice you may be in luck and they close it in November sometime.

I rode there this past weekend and there were many campers up in the Big Meadow area. The weather was primo!! (Mid 70's).

It is all open. It won't close until we get the first big winter storm.

Jfsh thanks for the info......you are the "goto" for the Kern area.

Sxc......from the top, naw, totally fine with getting dropped off at Big Meadow and starting there. Less climbing, more descending.....that sounds more like my type of shuttling. :)

Then why not drive all the way to the Cabin and have zero climbing. As I remember the steepest climb is after big meadow and that long fireroad climb by the spring. me that de could be longer it always gets over too fast for liking. Love high attitude meadows.
