Which Admin do i need to beg to get a post ride- THNX forum? Every time i try to put a "nice to meet you and had a blast on the ride" post where it seems most logical, eg. the thread that initiated the get together, it gets deleted and closed. A thank you doesn't really fully reflect a ride report and it would be nice to add just a single post to the original thread to show my appriciation. Can we get this or shall i just post in the Ride Report area?

Or, was my post deleted and thread closed because a couple days had past? If thats the case, then all i can say is my 2yr old had the stomach flu and was by her side for 3 days straight and i posted as soon as i got a chance. Either way, its annoying in a social forum your can't be social and say, "it was nice meeting you, thnx for the ride." sigh:?:

IMHO, Buy a beer for someone if you want to thank them.

If you post a Ride Report, It should Stay. I can't speak for the mods but this is what I've seemed to find.

A whole now forum would be alot of work. What you don't see is the mods reading new posts and moving them to the right places, deleting posts, ect.

For instance: This thread is probably better in the WEB SITE DISCUSSION forum.

I agree with Chris.....sometimes you don't want to start a whole RR just to say "thanks for that ride" . Maybe the mods should allow you to close your own "Trailhead" thread to allow the owner to say "thanks for the ride" and then the owner could close it at that point. Either that or allow the owner the option to move it to the Ride Report section...

The Trailhead forum is used for organizing rides. The Ride Report forum is used for discussion of a ride that has already occurred. That would include a "thanks for the ride"

If you don't want to start a new thread and just want to thanks that person, you can always go to their profile page and post a message to say thanks. Just click on their screen name and it go to their page. If you don't already know, it looks like this:

I'm not sure you guys can close your own thread. We get asked to close move, merge them all the time. Also thread titles and dates get posted wrong. We try and stream line the forum so we move threads to their proper forum, but it seems most just post in the general forum anyway.

Even when we move or merge threads, the re-direct is there so if you go to the old thread, it will take you to where it is. When close a trailhead thread, the RR link is also posted.

Ok. I'll remember to post in the RR forum a completely new thread just to say thnx instead of a single post in the thread that initiated the meeting. Makes since to me now.

I could go to the persons page and post a thnx also, but, then the rest of the forum has no idea how great some of these ppl are to get to ride with. Posting in the original thread didn't create any additional clutter and only momentarily bumped the thread to the top. With a total of 6-10 new threads since i had posted in it, i don't think i was bumping anything off the front page that wasn't already past due as well.

BTW, posting a RR link in my original thread would have not only bumped it to the top as well, but, cluttered the RR forum with an additional thread. I wouldn't have even minded if my thnx (again) hadn't been deleted from the original thread when it was closed.

    Theres a button for that.....

Im not so sure you are getting the point. IF you want to thank someone do so. But If its after a ride post a Ride Report. Sure maybe you just want to say thanks but maybe someone else with want to ask a question or have feed back as well. If you feel someone is awesome maybe write up a whole ride report and post a few pictures of them being awesome. Simply posting a whole thread to say "thanks (who ever) for being awesome" is worthless.

Its cool that you want to go out of you way to say thanks but Just a simple thanks isnt really getting your point across. Like I said maybe you could tell us why they are awesome.

The issue is not about bumping up the Trailhead posting, it's keeping all discussion of the ride in one place to make it easier for people to follow. If you thank someone for a ride in the Trailhead forum and so do a few other people (that add a few comments about the ride), then others actually create a ride report in the proper forum, now we have discussion about the ride in two different threads in two different forums. I suppose George could merge the two forums together so all ride planning and reports stay in the same thread. I'm sure if enough people wanted that change, George would listen to the input. For me personally, I really don't want to wade through three pages of planning to find out about a ride. Posting your thanks about a ride is a good way to get the ride report discussion started and it only takes the same amount of time you spent to create this thread.

I was trying to not start a whole new thread, that was the point of posting in my original Trailhead post. After all, that is where the meet was initiated.

My original "thanks" did say why i thought they were awesome, but, that post was deleted when the mod decided to close my thread. If those reasons i posted about wasn't awesome enough for you, then maybe you don't have to read my posts. As a beginning/intermediate rider i hope i continue to see other riders skills as possible ways to improve my own riding. For that, they were also awesome.

I was raised to be courteous and say "thank you" when someone goes out of their way to do something you appreciate. Two riders drove to meet up with me and follow me around for nearly 3hrs (which my wife also thanks them for having additional riders around in case something goes wrong). If i ever start to feel that doesn't deserve a "thank you" then i don't deserve anyone to ride with me.

Maybe you all are or aren't getting my point, I'm not sure. Its not about the amount of time, its clutter and bandwidth i was trying to reduce. I posted a ride, some ppl said they would meet up, i got time to say thanks for riding with me. All in one place. End of thread, ride, and meeting. But, since you all want them in the Ride Report section, I'll start posting them there.

Not the same. That's a reoccurring ride that happens weekly. We allow those otherwise they would start a new one every single week. I see your frustration, but look at it from our point of view as well. Just post a RR to say how the ride went, add pics if want and be done with it.

In the past, the trailhead was about discussing options for the ride or questions asked because rides were posted in the calendar section. No one seems to post there now which is where the rides and all the details should be. Posting in the calendar section allows people to RSVP, but seems it's easier now to start a thread about riding which we have no problem with.

I went ahead a undeleted the 2 post, then merged them with the RR you started here: http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/ride-reports/58380-5-25-sycamore-riverside-morning-ride.html

No need to post a reply to thank me or even start a thread, just hit the "thanks" button if you want to. ; )

In closing: We Mods try to be as fair as we can, but no way will we be able to please everyone nor do we even try.

Things were so much simpler when I first started moderating this board.

    It goes like this:

    • Trailhead Thread
      • Hey dude what time do we ride?
      • Where do we meet?
      • Can I carpool?
      • What type of tires?
      • ...and on and on and on
    • Ride report thread
      • Dudes! That ride was great!
      • Here is a picture of Dino faceplanting
      • Here are my pictures of Dirtvert and Genny holding hands
      • "Hey Craig...you are awesome! Thanks for putting this together!"
      • Here are all of my photos and a link to my blog
      • Gosh everyone, I just noticed how nice it is that I don't have to wade through the 18 pages from the trailhead thread to get to the "after the ride" information and pictures, including that nice comment from f./28."
      • ...and on and on and on.
And so this is how our forum works. We have been doing it this way for a long time and it has not been causing anyone any trouble. It sounds like your frustration is mainly from your comment being deleted maybe?

Really, a whole new thread just for that is less clutter? Ok. However you want it.

Yes. A simple thanks was deleted. Its sad that a single post in the thread i created for my ride gets closed and my thanks deleted. The Trailhead section still has posts from 5 days ago on the first page. I don't think i was bumping anything off that page that wasn't already old.

But, whatever. In the Ride Report forum they will go from now on .

I know of several members who are as well, but we do our best.

Funny how the OP didn't want to start a new thread in the RR section to thank someone for the ride, but wants a new forum so he can start a new thread to thank someone for the ride.

This thread has taken it's full course and you have your answer about having a new forum. Thread now closed. THANKS!
