The wife and I just signed up for Non Dot Adventures first race at Aliso in the tandem class. If they don't get enough interest (at least three big bikes) they won't have a tandem class for any of the other races in the series.

I know you guys are out there! Let's support local racing and show our fellow MTBers that two can be more fun than one.

How can you go down RockIt on a tandem? RockIt's not the most technical trail out there, but it's certainly hard enough for one rider on one bike much less a tandem. That must be tough. I can't imagine climbing Cholla, although the nondot race goes up Mathis I think. Kudos to you and your wife!!!

Jon and Missy (some of the owners of Non Dot Adventures) are tandem racers. They are completing at Sea Otter! I know they would like to be racing at the Aliso race, but we need them behind the scenes!
I know there are other tandems out there, where is the Carbon family???

Sharp switchbacks will be difficult (read: often impossible), and wheel lofting is severely inhibited, but steep and chunky DH are standard fare on a tandem. We've ridden Car Wreck, MS, Stairsteps, Joplin and many other trails on our hardtail with no issue (that I've been informed of, hehe).

In all fairness, saying Rock-It is difficult is a statement about a rider, not a bike. With that said, yes, the bike makes a difference. Add 26" of wheelbase to your bike and put 100+ lbs on the back, then see how likely you are to go OTB compared to a single bike. And that core workout...

I thought about this one, but still on the fence.
Racing is not really our thing, but the riding with other tandems is great.

    hmmm...

We couldn't care less about the competition, just the opportunity to ride with a bunch of folks, have fun and push ourselves a little. Just think how many times you will be able to hear," Hey, she's not pedaling!"

I'm dying right now!!! That comment drives me crazy when we are on the tandem! Little do they know that I'm working harder than ever when I'm on the back of that big bike. Thanks for getting the word out... wish we could race with you guys! (Team Tandem Kearleys)

My wife and I would love to do this knowing there'd be other tandems there, but my knee is busted up pretty bad.

As for who's doing the work....I joke that I have the garmin and my wife wears the HR monitor so I can keep tabs on how hard she's actually working. But truthfully, sometimes she pushes hard and it makes the hill seem a little easier so I back off without even realizing it thinking it's just an easy climb until she says something to me.
