I've done it twice, I need to stop playing on my mountain bike and get some road miles in if I don't want to suffer out there!

Sorry about the rotator cuff...how long will you be down?

This has to be the most confusing route description ever. Until I found the elevation map it sounded like you would get 18 miles dh as part of pass 3 then have 4 climb. After seeing the map it made sense what they were saying.

It sound painfuls, even the shortest route would kill me.

It's painful. Very painful. The best advice I can give is to check in and out of Angelus Oaks quickly. Lots of people stop there to rest, but you have a descent very shortly after that stop, so you'll recover then.

Oh, and bring your own nutrition unless you love Gatorade. I always underfuel on this one because the sticky sweetness gets to me and I stop drinking. #-o

Not sure yet. I go back to the doc next week. I was training very well up to this point and I started riding the stationary bike but I can only manage a half hour or so before I can't take it any more. I'm going to try a ride with one hand and see how it works out.

Have ridden it and volunteered it, not sure this year.

For those a bit intimidated the 3 pass ride is a very respectable ride....cool thing is you can decide out on the road how far you are going to go.

BTW This ride now sells out in ~1/2 a day.

BTW .... "Damnation Alley" is named after me...or more correctly named by me....for reals :) ... it is also the name of a B movie from the 70s
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075909/

It came from my ride report after my first successful attempt many years ago...after a failed attempt in 2001

Here a section of my RR from 2002..

    "
The climb up Oak Glen went well, I felt strong and Mike, Greg and I all hit the top together. It was getting warm. In the back of my mind I wanted to get to the Mill Creek ranger station at get past "Damnation Alley" as soon as I could. That's what I call that first 6 miles out of the ranger station. Last year it was 90+ degrees on that stretch, and that's what got me, the Grim Reaper put his black cloak over me and I couldn't shake it. He wasn't going to get me this year; I told him so on the Oak Glen climb. I got to the ranger station first, got fueled and had teenage angst about getting started, and almost left but couldn't quite. I was wondering where the others were, they showed up a couple minutes later, Mike had flatted. I felt palpable relief when we made it to the big switch back at the end of the Alley. The remainder of the climb to Angelus Oaks was enjoyable, Mike didn't quite agree with my view, for that fact neither did Greg. Things can and do change though."
