    Thanks for all the replies. Lots of good info and not too many using a purpose built chain cleaning tool, so I'm guessing they may not be the way to go.

    Switching from white lightning to pro link is the best thing that's ever happened to my chain.

    I use a wire brush on the chain rear D and crank rings then blow it off with air. Tooth brush on the seals.

    Where do you live Kaboomims? If I'm in your area sometime I'll show you what my Park chain gang cleaning system tool and Park chainbrite cleaner will do. It amazed me the first time I used it. Together they are really good and efficient.

    I use the kid next door, pay him a couple bucks, usually does a good job.

    I use a lube to clean it. (White Lightening and then after I wipe and brush off all the dirt I hit it again with Pro-Link. I don't see any need to degrease it if the lube cleans it.

    A bottle of Mequires Plastx handles all of my carbon frame cleaning/protection. It's the best stuff for cleaning and protecting plastic and carbon imo.
