Santiago/Luge and Harding Truck trail, 3 B's maybe - All have lots of topography, should drain quickly.

I'm doing the paved part of maple springs a few times. really can't stand the indoor trainer.

If your training for VQ/CC, Park ave in Laguna Beach. Steep and long paved road, just local traffic.

STT & the Luge get pretty sloppy right after the rain. They don't take as long to dry out, but still get kinda messy. Check it out here; http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/ride-reports/33022-jakes-rainy-muddy-funny-b-day-ride.html

Oaks (3B's) will be closed for 72 hours after the rains, since it's a County Park.

Harding is a fireroad, so if you don't mind slogging up in the sticky stuff, it's not bad. Same with Maple Springs, except the dirt on MS holds up better, and doesn't seem to pack up as fast.

We hit Sycamore Canyon last year when things got wet, and it was GREAT! The dirt holds up really well.

Blackstar is a freak'n mess when it's wet. The mud packs up quick. Most of the Main Divide is ride-able, but you do hit the mucky sections.

Hope this helps out a little.

There is very little to ride after the rain. If you gotta get some dirt I think Sycamore (Riverside) is about your best bet. I'm not sure about the San Diego areas. The Gabes used to be okay after a day or two and Chantry would be okay after a couple days but still soggy in the shaded areas.

Marshall Cyn is not okay to ride for at least a couple days.

Just be careful of the water crossings, especially if it's still raining anywhere in the vicinity. I just heard a story today about certain STR peeps who shall remain nameless (until someone resurrects an old post) who had a bit of trouble there once due to rain.

ebenke - did you mean the Three B's in Santiago Oaks? If so, that's out since OC parks all close during rain and for a period of time afterward. Plus while those might drain fast, they would also be sloppy and they usually rut up badly. If it was one of the several other 3B's, please disregard.

I second Sycamore Canyon in Riverside, soil is Slightly Silty Med/ Coarse Sand. Drains well, no puddles in 90% of the trail.

I usually reserve this trail during the raining season.

San Juan Trail and others off that area of Ortega Hwy seem to be okay after (or sometimes during) rain.

Let's see if that's still the case 24 hours from now, mkay? ;)

You just had to resurrect that, Darin!

I've ridden Marshall after the rain and it was pretty good. There is one area about 40 yards long that's messy. But if you stay to the side of the graded road, it seems okay.

If you want to make the trek, some friends and I rode the lower part of ATT on Saturday morning from the bottom up and back. We also did parts of the trail up on the mesa. The upper portion is a lot of clay, so after a rain it's probably a sloppy mess, not to mention "off limits" so there won't be any sanctioned trail work going on out there unless people take it upon themselves. The last time I rode the upper sections corners were blown out, cheater lines were all over the place, rutted, etc. Sucked. The lower main TT is mostly DG and it was packed pretty good from the recent rains we had. Too short but still fun, and nobody went over the side. There were a lot of shuttlers out there making good fun of the gnarlier stuff also.

+1 on Sycamore Canyon in Riverside. It drains so well that I pray for rain so that I CAN ride there :)

It's not really an issue here as the trails are bulldozed (or more like bobcatted) every year but it's not a good practice in my opinion to ride here during or right after a rain. There are 4 or 5 places that are clay which sticks to your bike and leaves substantial sized ruts. But you're right, most of the trail is okay a day or so after a rain.

Can anyone in San Diego recommend a trail that is okay to ride during or after the rains? I generally ride LPQ, Tri-Canyons or Mission Trails after work and ATT, La Costa (if I'm near it) or Sycamore Canyon on weekends. I usually don't have time to get out of the city, so I prefer rides close to home (I'm in North Park near the velodrome) where I can squeeze in a hour or three ride. Florida Canyon is out since it's mostly clay. Just looking for some decomposed granite to roll on.

I second this, but if you feel that you must ride, there is always a roadie!
