I just replaced the bottom bracket on my bike with the RF (Race Face) Ride crankset and RF SRX ISIS BB. I have an older Trek 3900 (2010). The RF BB has a spacer and matches up perfect with the old BB lip on the drive side (hope thsi makes sense). On the non-drive side (left), it looks just about the same also, but maybe slightly less long length. When I attach the crank arm, it looks ok though. My question is, when I screw in the non-drive side bottom bracket nut (the one where you need to use the bottom bracket tool to remove/fasten), it seems to go in more than my previous BB that I removed. Is this normal? Or or does this bottom bracket nut (sorry for the lack of the correct term) supposed to sit flush with face of the frame?
Sounds like you might be putting a spacer on the drive side that you don't need :?: Is this your BB? http://raceface.com/components/bottom-brackets/bottom-brackets/isis-srx/ There are instructions on the website if you don't have them. This BB kinda looks like an old SHimano octalink BB I have (no "flange" or "lip" on the NDS). If you use a spacer on the DS it might move everything to the right which is why you need to thread the NDS cup in further to frame/shell. Best guess, but post up pics if you have them.
Yes, that is it..The old BB spindel measures 122mm..the one I got is 113..it is slightly shorter seems like..I'm at work, I know this is meaningless without pictures..will post some when I get home later..
I was surprised that the Trek 3900 uses a 31.6mm seat tube instead of 30.6. I wouldn't be surprised if the BB shell width is 73mm rather than 68mm. If that's the case, that means you're not supposed to use the supplied spacer.
