Now I say it in writting.......heal up fast Cindy! I was so glad to visit you yesterday in the hospital and have you actually talk to me with a normal conversation! You finally quit acting like Granny repeating the same questions over and over!! You had my adrenilin pumped put there in the dirt, holding your head still, and watching your eyes roll back and disapear. My butt is very sore today from squating to keep you motionless......so I keep thinking of you. I am obviously not in rescue shape!!! I hope you continue to get better real fast cuz I saw a big improvement from 11 AM to 3 PM!!! Be a Comeback Cindy!!!!

Fondly, your personal EMT - Code 3 Carrie

Because it isn't a "technical" trail feature. As ericfoltz pointed out, it was put there as a vehicular barrier a long time ago. It has no riding value whatsoever. Because of the angle of the approach, you have to slow down enough to avoid getting launched, so it's more of a nuisance than anything. If you were going to build a jump, you'd look at this as what NOT to do. For those familiar with the 4 jumps on Tierjas north of the ballfields, the LR bump is the antithesis.

I have a differing opinion from some about removing it, because all these airlifts are going to cause this area to get closed...IMO there is much more downside to leaving it than removing it. I'm pretty sure that the ownership of the land has changed since it was put in, and I think removing it is much less likely to be noticed than another airlift. Just my $.02.

^^ Good point. Whirling helicopters would seem to make a bigger scene than removing the bump. But I like that cars/motorcycles can't make it through that section because, quite honestly, it's only after that bump that the trail becomes worth riding at all and if that mound o' dirt keeps them out, then that's fine by me.

That said, I *do* think a little warning of some sort would be a good idea. I just know what tends to happen to signs along that trail. I saw a high voltage sign on the barb wire today and thought, "Really? They've decided to pump electricity through the wire to keep anyone from coming into RMVC's land?" Then I remembered what it's like to be 15 in suburbia.

Just curious for those that were there, where in the world do you land a 'copter up there? Is it back towards the water tower before you come down the little hill to the bump?

The area is already closed (just not actively enforced).

The Rancho Mission Viejo has been the landowner for some time.

well for some who lives in ladera the entire trail system on that side of Antonio is solid riding. Big climbs make it great for CC, TT, or VQ training, and the singletrax are good rewards for all the climbing that needs to be done.

    Just my 2 cents

Brenda and I went to see Cindy tonight - I was going to take a picture for everyone to see her recovering, but she's not in any condition yet for pics. She was asleep when we got there, but she woke up and was on a lot of meds. She was amazed at the outpouring from the folks at STR, not being familiar with the tight-knit community that is mountain biking.

We brought her an amazing bouquet from Dirty Girl/Trail Angel/florist Karen (kpeony) - thanks for all the kind donations. It was a huge bouquet.

I dutifully cut and pasted all the names and well-wishes from all the STR folks in a file, and even with small print and close spacing it was 4 pages. She will enjoy reading all of them in detail when the heavy drugs start wearing off.

I think she'll be in for another 3 days, and then she'll be in a back brace at home for 2-3 months. I thought 6 weeks sounded a little too optimistic...

Thanks again for the prayers and good wishes.

Thanks for the clarification Eric. My point was that if people don't stop getting hurt out there, the enforcement prescence (security patrols, more signs, barbed wire) is going to equal to that of Chiquita Ridge...no bueno.

Don't get me wrong. I love being able to roll from garage to dirt in under a 1/4 mile. I'm forever spoiled now. I was just saying, it's only after the hump that the riding, on that particular stretch, gets worthwhile. The rest of that utility trail is only better than riding pavement to me. Maybe I'm suffering from trail burnout...

I'm not sure this is accurate. I specifically rode the entire stretch yesterday in search of any no trespassing or private, etc signs. Nothing. The only areas posted were on the east side of the fence line, behind the barbed wire fencing. I assume this is meant to say "don't cross over the barbed wire fence line" which is fair. The trail itself is not posted no trespassing anywhere I could find. I entered from the sub-station and headed north. Didn't see anything coming back south either. Not saying it's not closed, but I definitely don't see anything that says it is closed. :?:

if you are on the trail going south bound then stop at the hump and look down and to the east you will see what is left of the sign, post, & wiring from the last time the trail head was closed.

All signage is or was from RMVC

That sucks you got hurt. I've never ridden there, but i hope someone removes that hump. It sounds like a lot of people get hurt from it. I hope you feel better and heal quickly.

Cindy was discharged from the hospital on Saturday (after a Wednesday crash). She is being well-cared for by her curch group, not in too much pain, but mostly in bed for now. Whenever she gets out of bed she has to have her back brace on, so she doesn't get up much for now.

She is VERY grateful for the flowers and all the well-wishes she has received on STR!!!! You guys are the best.

I rode the route again today with my Wednesday crew - the hump has been modified and greatly improved. Also checked out the excellent reroute on lower Tijeras Creek and hit Waterworks and the Gilleran Drop. It was a fabulous ride on a gorgeous day.

My perfect riding day - cloudy but not too cool, and I cleaned everything and rode strong. 13+ miles and 1100 ft. gain (I know, easy, right?).
