Dean, You've got the right attitude! Bout 4 weeks ago I went out by myself for an post work cruise. Next thing I knew I was calling my wife from the Whiting Oakley lot to pick me up and take me to the hospital. Took me about a week and a half but now I remember exactally what happened. I was coming down Rut Run towards the bottom, I heard a huge rustle out of the bushes and I thought it was a big cat! Nope, was a Big Deer! He came into the side of me as I was going down the singletrack, I rolled over his back, off my bike, and hit the ground hard. Managed to find my light and garmin, hiked the main trail out to the parking lot, called the wife. Broken clavicle, three ribs and a concussion. Feel better soon!
Yikes - no fun, but at least you have a great story. Two questions though: 1) Is the bike OK? 2) Was it a demo bike from the Path? Hope you heal well and quickly.
LOL!! Yes the bike is good. No demo, that's a whole nother demention of oh crap factor. Thank you for the healling thoughts!
Thanks to everyone for keeping me in their thoughts. Friends are constantly checking up on me so I just gotta say I love ya all! The chest is still pretty sore and it hurts to laugh, but the doc said I wasn't bleeding internally so I can't complain. So the finally tally on damage was a sore shoulder and chest, a broken hand, and my face was exfoliated by a little bit of dirt from cactus trail. I ended up with 3 pins on two metacarpals that come out in 3 more weeks. Honestly the worst pain is the muscle spasms/cramps in my arm that has to support the extra weight of my partially mummified arm. Just think of holding a light dumbbell for 4 weeks and you cant ever let it go and you'll get the idea. I still have no memory of what happened. I'm probably going to go walk whiting tomorrow and see where i crashed (just before the detour on cactus). The only thing that makes sense is what happened to yamadan, but if the memory never comes back, I'm going with tackled by Bambi.
Well, could have been way worse!! Glad it's just soreness and the hand.. I hear ya on the worst part being the cramps.. My back has been killing me because my arms in a sling. Without the "normal" movement, everything seizes up. Take it easy on your hike!
I'm going to guess you washed out at the end of the U-turn left hander, went straight down on your left (inside) shoulder/chest, crushing your hand beneath you as well as getting a cheek full of gravel. Lot of loose stuff right there before the detour. Heal up buddy.
