ya as others have said its probably an overuse issue, which sucks and is a "pain in the butt"

but seriously things like that can take awhile to heal, go see a doc, i bet they give you 5 minutes and a bottle of pain meds

^^ Yeah Mo. If you have the USHIP insuarnce through UCI, just go there. They'll be able to take a look at you if you don't have another doctor.

Isn't it finals time anyways? This is probably the only thing that'll keep you away from your bike. Consider it good timing!

I would've facepalmed if you punned that. Facepalming is not a necessarily a bad thing!

Last time I googled some odd torturous pain, looking to see if it was a disease/disorder that I needed to get checked out for, I got a ton of hits that implied I was in serious trouble. Though, the more I looked things up, the more I learned it was really normal/common and that it's another one of those things the body's immune system handled on its own. There's meds for symptom relief, but whatever.

I'm willing to bet that if you just put something under thigh to rest your weight on (rather than resting it on your ass cheek) when you sit at school, and let it heal itself up, it'll get better by itself. Or perhaps sit on the edge of the seat, anything to reduce pressure on it, to reduce chance of inflaming it again. It's perhaps better that the pain reminds you to take it easy, rather than rely on meds to allow you to continue with your daily routine, which actually may slow the healing process if you are more comfortable with putting pressure on it. One of the worst case scenarios is probably that it gets worse due to you not allowing it to heal and the docs quarantine you to a bed laying face down in a hospital for a while.

As to the cause, are you sitting really upright when you ride?

Having ridden with you on multiple occasions, I can attest that your body position is good, definitely not too upright. It's impossible to be too upright on a Knolly, if you buy the right size frame. You'd have to put on 60mm of spacers! I can't say for sure that your leg extension is exactly right, but a quick test is - with your riding shoes on and your saddle in its climbing position, put your pedal all the way down with your arch on the pedal. If your knee is nearly locked out, that's good. If you have to tilt your hip to reach your pedal, you are too high. If your knee is flexed, you're too low. When you pedal on the ball of your feet as intended, you will have good extension without locking out.

Of course, do not try this until your butt is out of its sling. You're welcome!

that would most likely cause knee pain instead, so i doubt it. its most likely some sort of overuse injury, i get them all the time, elbows, knees, everything. I guess i could sit on the couch but thats no fun.

I hope so. That florescent green Gobi on the florescent yellow bike makes me kinda dizzy...It's hideous.
Mo - you can have my black Silverado or, for a small fee, my white Rocket V.

So ... from some who has some direct experience with this....

I agree with the general Overuse consensus, but I found for me it was brought on by something a little more acute such as suddenly increasing mileage, climbing, weight lifting etc…

    A couple areas to consider
    a) Your hamstrings / IT Band may be very tight and often our quads and hamstring are not balanced. if so you may be “rocking” adding more pressure on that point / nerve / attachment which is strained / irritated from the overuse. This happened to me when I got back into the Gym and started doing legs and got tight. Stretching / Foam Roller was a huge benefit , of course too much stretching can irritate it. Of course icing can help… yes I just said Ice your butt.

    b) When this happens it may point to other areas that had been “marginally ok” but under the new stress / acuteness / inflammation are now an issue. For me it turned out to be a saddle issue. For me in turns out I was using too wide of saddle and the “wings” / edges were grinding into that point. Once it was inflamed the more it got aggravated.

    c) I know peeps have it out for Spesh a bit… but go get you’re a$$ measured on the Butt-O-Meter… I did turns out I need to ride a 135mm , I was riding 143 made all the difference. In fact it is not longer and issue at all.

    d) Conclusion : Finding the right saddle, saddle height, stretching / non-tight / strong / balanced Hamstring / quads all help.

Oh and “Get Up.. Stand Up…When You Ride Your Bike”….(Think Bob Marley)

Needless to say folks there are plenty of comedy opps…in this post…
