Mine's hanging in my classroom next to the filthy, muddy VQ bib, my CC feather, and my 2 Traverse ribbons.

VQ feather and plate, along with a few others, is hanging next to where I keep socks and underwear. I get to look at them almost every morning.

... I mean I get to look at the feather.... #-o

I figured the amount of pain endured justified framing it.

Bought the frame at Aaron Brothers.

    Love this quote:

"WTF!?" I said to myself as I tried to navigate by orange cone through the rocks and water. Then guess what?...we had to hike-a-bike out of the creek bed to get to the road and finally to the finish line. I coined that section the 2 minute VQ.

Considering, I had never handled timing before.....glad to report that we had only 2 riders with errors on their times, which were quickly sorted out.

This year, I knew my wife would be there for packet pick up in the morning and to set the race off an begin the timer. The plan was to go over to O'Neil Park so she could give me a quick course in Timing 101. But that didn't work out as I was rushed off to help build the dreaded creek crossing/HAB from hell. Upon my return, my wife was already fine to spend time with Mom. Guess I was going to have to learn on the fly.

Most years I tend to be a "Jack-Of-All-Trades".....doing a little bit of everything, filling in where needed, and helping sort out problems. I figured I would have some spare time to get to play around with the timing system well before the riders wild start coming through. That would not be the case. By the time we got the creek crossing built and the signs and markings and finish line set up....we got word that the first Counting Coup rider had already passed the bottom of Lower Holy Jim and was on his way out. 15 mins. later he came across the finish line....now I had to learn quick.

I am usually working around the finish line at all the events, so it's fun to see people and faces that I recognize come
across, and see the looks of happiness to thank god it's over.

My wife's mother passed about an hour after I got home from the event.....it was good she got to spend the day with her.

Timing would have been much smoother with her there, but under the circumstances I think we did a pretty good job.

I read your blog and wow!, the tough training really paid off for strength and skill.

Today I was reviewing some Strava records and segued into the VQ data.

You killed the Trabuco Trail Super D! (9.8mi.) Number 2 out of the 11 VQ riders who posted on Strava.
You were 1st (ahead of FuzzyJohn) for the initial 6.5 miles.

Was great to read all the reports from the race. My friends know how bummed I was that I couldn't ride the CC and had to sell my spot earlier in the year. A crash on my quad over Thanksgiving left me with a concussion, broke rib and a cracked vertebrate, and while its all healed for the most part, doctor doesn't want me riding till June 1st. So while after shooting the event the last two years, and setting my personal goal last year to finish the CC in 2011, I regretfully had to give me spot up. Wasn't able to shoot it this year either because I was in Vegas covering the NHRA race.

My back still hurts from time to time (starting to feel 31), but June 1st I will be back on the bike after 6 months off, slowly getting back to where I was, then after that full speed ahead for CC next year! The only way I won't have a feather next year is if I'm dead!
