RR – Palm Springs, Sedona, Phoenix

Each year my wife, Jeanne, and I spend Thanksgiving with her family in Arizona. This year we did it right by turning the trip into a week of desert mountain biking.

Day 1: We only got as far as Palm Springs in order to hit “Goat Trails”. Goat Trails is an area with multitudes of unmarked trail options along with several marked trail systems. I haven’t ridden here in years and forgot how much fun it is.

    Our next destination was Sedona.

Day 2: A short ride on Courthouse and Bell Rock pathway to loosen up after the long drive.

Day 3: Bell Rock to Llama, Little Horse, and Broken Arrow. These trails lead you to the ever popular Chicken Rock and Submarine Rock.

Day 4: Boynton Pass Road area for a couple of loop connections, Long Canyon, Deadman’s Pass, Cockscomb, and other unmarked trails where we got a little confused due to a major construction project near Cockscomb.

Day 5: Bell Rock to Templeton, Oak Creek and Baldwin.

We really needed a lot more time in Sedona, but we had a bird to eat in Sun City.

Day 6: We hit White Tank Mountain (west of Pheonix) where they built a “mountain bike track”. I thought it was pretty fun. Most of it is all out high speed stuff over small rocky washes and such. There is a really fun technical section followed by a climb up a few switch backs. Go around a few times for a good workout.

Thanks for the RR. Sedona/Oak Creek is a excellent place to ride. Trails close to town, numerious play areas if you want to challange yourself, crazy tech if you go look for it or a nice easy spin. The trails can get busy with hikers but you loose them once you get away from the trailheads...besides you can run into some pretty interesting people out there.

Great RR. I've got to get to Arizona soon. Maybe the fling.
I was just checking out the Goat trails on MTBill's site.
I think I need to ride Palm Springs too.

Trails and dates not settled yet. Paul B. has stepped down and DirtGurl (Kathleen) is picking up the slack.

I loved Sedona - so many different types of riding there.

What and when is the fling? I'd be up for a road trip :)

    See my post #7 above.

Gurp has put in his vote.

Maybe we should post some pics of Su Ling...that would peek the interest for the guys.

Dean, count me in! That's awesome, because I'll be in Arizona for sure right around that time! I'll be in Tucson, so it's a 3 hour drive to Sedona. No biggie.
