A male mountain biker who fell off a Laguna Beach trail and tumbled 200 feet on Friday afternoon was in critical condition when rescuers reached him later that day, authorities said Saturday.

A man called 911 around 4 p.m. to report that a male friend in his 50s was trapped near the Telonics mountain bike trail in the 2800 block of Laguna Canyon Road, said Sgt. Tim Kleiser of the Laguna Beach Police Department.

The unidentified man rode his bike and fell from the trail into an area where he couldn’t climb up, according to Kleiser.

It took about an hour for rescuers to reach the man due to the location, “treacherous terrain” and falling rocks, said Steve Concialdi, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority. When authorities reached the mountain biker, he was treated and stabilized before being hoisted into a helicopter around 6:40 p.m., officials said.

The fire authority and Laguna Beach fire officials took part in the rescue.

The mountain biker, who likely suffered some fractures and internal injuries, was taken to the Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana in critical condition, as of Friday evening, Concialdi said.

Fortunately, the biker was wearing a helmet and thick vegetation absorbed his fall, Concialdi added.

The fall appears to be from Telonics just after Waterfall at the big rock drop at 2:05 on this video where there is a gnarly drop off on the far right. Appears he must have tried to huck over the rock drop (see in picture below) and something went bad catapulting him over the edge to the far right beyond the rock drop.

Chris--our prayers and hopes are with you as you move from the adventurous and courageous life of mountain biking and active sports to a new challenge in your life which is also physical, but primarily spiritual, and believe you will approach it with the same courage you have always displayed. We are a community of calculated risk takers who believe that bad things can happen even in the absence of risk, so generally we weigh the risk as worth it and keep the physical damage contained. But not always, and what happened to you sends chills of fear through each one of us. I have bombed down Telonics dozens of times, not a trail for the faint of heart, and hung on the edge of the cliff a couple of times myself. Yard sales are frequent even with the skilled. Our hearts and prayers go out to you as you wake up to this new challenge in your life.-- Wayne.

Praise God! Pray you continue to heal optimally, mind, body, soul & Spirit.

One of my familiar and remembered scriptures from the BIBLE. Psalm 34:18,19 The Lord draws near to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.
Go with God, for He goes with you dear one.

    Steve, grateful for salvation

Man that sucks! Heal up dude. Is this trail official now or what? Seems like Telonics is ridden more than legal trails these days. Tons of cool vids on the net and even promos on pinkbike. Haha.

There was a time when you couldn't utter the word Telonics on this site without getting it deleted, and receiving a friendly reminder via PM that we can't talk about the most ridden, least secret DH trail in the universe.

Hoping and praying that Chris makes a complete recovery.

@herzalot - I know right...the site has to lose all popularity before you can talk about the popular trails

Hope he is getting better, every day makes a difference when you get totally f'ed up on a mountain bike. From the sounds of it he is getting better.
So can I mention the G spot since we are talking about hypothetical unauthorized trails?

"Yesterday my dad walked 80 feet in a walker! He is making great progress everyday and has increased function in his arms, legs, hands, and feet. Everyday he grows stronger and everyone's support has really pushed him through this hard time. I want to say thank you to Jamie Wells for being his mentor and an inspiration to my dad! His advice, insight and different tools he has brought including a wheelchair have been so incredibly helpful! We are eternally grateful to him and everyone else!" https://www.gofundme.com/hukillfund
