This group seems to get around a lot and I got an idea a few months back while I was enjoying a great burger in New Orleans. Why not start a thread to share our favorite spots to grab some grub from around the world. Bings! Chicago eats post just reminded me to post this.

List anything...casual to fancy, sit down to take out, food carts or roach coaches. Post ride grub spots! Hopefully we get enough responses to make this a sticky. I apologize if someone already beat me to it.

Thank you, Tink. I'll hit Thai Garden next time I ride in Whiting. It's challenging finding GOOD places for a post-ride snack when you're outside your own 'hood.

For those who venture into North OC, there's a place just north of the Courthouse and the Fullerton Loop. It's Phans55 www.phans55.com, a small Vietnamese place, a little nicer than you'd expect to find in a strip mall. Whatever I order, whether it's off the menu or something the chef puts together, is nicely prepared. I think he deserves the title "chef" as opposed to "cook." I'm told that the Irvine location is a little nicer than the Fullerton spot. If you're looking for Taco Bell prices, don't go here.

Another place I've recently been turned on to, with locations near the east side of Chino Hills and the 73 & Mac (Elmo, Bommer, etc.), is Pei Wei. It's a variety of Asian styles in a "walk up to the counter to order" kind of place. I've found the vegetables to always be fresh and cooked al dente. Prices are very fair, and the atmosphere is such that you won't be too out of place if you walk in all sweaty and covered in dust.

    Great idea!
    How about adding a cost category? Like a "$" per every $10 a plate costs? Eg. < $10 is $, 10-20 is $$, 20-30 is $$$, etc.

Steakhouses - Fleming's in Newport Beach and Mastro's in Crystal Cove $$$$
    Pizza joint - Sonny's in San Clemente or Oggi's in Tustin/HB $$
Burger - Five Guys $ (I heard The Habit in Mission Viejo/Lake Forest off El Toro is good, but I haven't tried it)
Pastrami - The Hat in Lake Forest $ (pastrami cheeseburger - yum yum)
Best Hole in the wall - Peter's Gourmade in Tustin (operates out of Valero gas station) $

Phans are my clients and I have to admit that their food is fantastic. It's more of an upscale Vietnamese cuisine with quality products and a slight twist catering to non-Vietnamese clientele. Don't expect Little Saigon prices though!

The best hole in the wall ever is El Fortin on the south side of Commonwealth, about 5 blocks east of Harbor, in Fullerton. It's Mexican food from Oaxaca and different from all other Mexican food. It is Dirt Cheap and fantastic in quality.

Most definitely. They have their menu on the link I posted. I noticed that their prices went up about a $1 per item but they are still inexpensive.

    Basilico's Pasta E Vino $$
    19171 Magnolia St in HB
No website. Opens at 4 daily
Everything is good, I like so many things there I can't pick a favorite. If you are a foodie, it's a must try. Small place, great staff. You may have to wait for a bit, but well worth it. Great spot for a date.

The Bottle Room in Uptown Whittier has the best ($12) burgers I've ever had, awesome mac n cheese, plenty of Microbrews and an outside patio. It's only about a two minute drive from the Turnbull Canyon trailhead too.

Las Golandrinas/San Juan Capistrano- a "big dave" burrito after a San Juan Trail ride is soooooo good! I call it the "sleeping pill".

Mangia Mangia in Huntington Beach- small hole in the wall with great northern italian dishes. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but very good eats!

Vietnamese place at E La Palma and Imperial Highway in Anaheim Hills/Yorba Linda. Best Pho ever.

    # 37 on the menu is the BEST (get the chicken). Add a spring roll appetizer and you've got the best lunch ever.
