No wonder why nothing cool ever comes up for sale anymore. Someone said ppl nickel and diming ppl for small parts on the marketplace that should be given away... No way man. I used bash guard is not worth giving away when you can help someone build his bike under budget while getting back on some of your investment. Seller fees are horrible. I've had Better Luck on craigslist. THANKS CRAIG!

How about being able to post a thread in the Marketplace forum if we have paid for an ad? This would allow open discussion about the item for sale, that way if someone has a question, the answer posted might answer the same question other people have.

It would also help with getting people to actually see the ad.

    Just an idea.

It is unfortunate that the Classify Ad isn't as affective as the The Market Place was. I use to enjoy running into good deals in the The Market Place forum and also selling. Items for sale on The Market Place use to sell fast.

It appears that no one has the funds or desire to pay the low fee to place an ad or do they browse the Classify ad as frequently. Maybe if the Ads where also posted in the forum as regular post, there might be more activity and interest, of course, still charge the small fee.

While I'm on the subject, is my Dart 3 over price for only $75, see Ad.

I chose to deal with a bunch of flakes#-o over paying for an ad. I got rid of everything except my dart 3 that I have down to 50 now so I think 75 might be a little steep.:)

George plans on putting something on the homepage about the classifieds so it can be seen. Starting a thread about the items would just be like the old way with everyone bumping their items and posting replies that do nothing but bury the info about the items like "too bad its not a large".., etc.

The way I look at it is that if you need to find something, look it up since there are categories which make it easier to look for just that item. The old way, many were too lazy to search because of the number of threads they had to filter through and would open up another thread.

Those selling should also check the WTB adds to see if their items would be of interest by sending that person a message. Those who want to buy should check the adds often. Seems to work for MTBR , ebay and CL. Why not here?
    :?:

I have a STR doo-hicky and can post as many items as I want for $30 a year. Seems to be a small price to pay for me anyway as I've sold and bought lots of items here. Just my .02

:bang: Im' down with that but if it has to be manually moderated it would be chaos for the modz. Now if it can be done within the system then cool and less headache. I think the way to go is have a thread within the classified item for sale so there can be discussion. People always ask questions and it would be nice to have those questions in the ad

You can if you click on the feedback button and leave a comment/question. Interested parties should check those feedbacks. You can also edit your sale add and add the questions and your answer.

    Want my feedback? OK.

So far my experience with the classifieds system has been bad. I posted a WTB topic and got zero replies, offers, etc, whereas in the old marketplace I would have had several replies within an hour or two. I also tried to list an add 3 times before giving up, because after I clicked "submit" it would send me back to the homepage. Lots of wasted time there. I also don't like that the listing fee must be paid upfront before an item is sold. I would prefer the fee be charged only after the item is purchased, because I personally don't always have a few bucks in my paypal account to do small transactions like that.

    Just my .02

Unless someone wants to moderate the old market place, I don't think it will ever be back. We Mods got tired of moderating that forum. That was a full time job, talk about wasted time. Like I said, it is up to those who is selling to check the WTB adds and see what is there and. If you look at the adds there, there has been plenty of views on each. Hopefully George will have a "latest add" section on the home page soon.

I think the new classified section neglects the impulse buyer and seller. I know I personally spent hundreds of dollars on things that I wasn't even looking for because I saw a good deal pop up. Same is true of selling stuff, I think all of us have stuff that we aren't using that someone may need that we will never use. Most probably don't list because it is a random item that isn't worth a whole lot or they are just too lazy.

Not saying that this is better than the old market place, but it IS much easier for us mods. Once upon a time, the market place worked, but with growth of this site it got to be a pain keeping things in order and the spam posts and random posts got to be too much even for 4 of us.

This is what George posted in another thread:

Maybe a section like the way the pictures cycle and have adds cycle through as well? There is a section that is a blank space under the "I've posted here" section

I never understood why we couldn't leave comments in the old marketplace. If you took that issue away I would have to think that a good portion of the mod time would go away.

I like the new marketplace much better. It is a superior system for making very specific searches when I'm in the market for something special.

When I'm just in the mood to browse, I click on a bookmark in my browser for a complete listing of everything for sale, in reverse chronological order. I'll try to paste the URL below, and hopefully vBulletin won't wreck it:

I'm sure George appreciates the feedback. Hopefully the new Classifieds can be tweaked to more closely fit the needs of what most are looking for out of it. Personally, I liked having new ads show up when I clicked on "* unread posts" in the old system.

There are a couple things that need to be kept in mind regarding the old/new systems:

Plain and simple, the old system no longer worked. To give everyone an idea of what we were faced with, in the two month period before the Classifieds went on line, I had to moderate 305 posts and I'm only one of three moderators that was working on it. While it was a PITA for us moderators, the real problem was that unless sellers constantly bumped their ads it would quickly move off the first page which is where the majority of the page views were.

The new Classifieds system is getting a ton of traffic as witnessed by the page views so for those that say ad's are not being viewed, that's flat out wrong.

The issue of charging for ad's has been discussed to death so I won't belabor that point. I believe it's here to stay.

Have you tried to post an add yet? If not, I believe only an admin can help you with that. I'm sure CalEpic will pipe in soon.
