Wow! there are a lot of injuries right now. We need a central list just to keep track of them. Briefly, please put your STR handle along with the injury and how long expected to be sidelined so we can keep track of who's riding and who is not. Healing vibs from the rest of the tribe....
Herniated Disk Thanks!!! Here's mine..... Denmother - Herniated Disk: Off all activity for 3 weeks, hope to be riding in 6 weeks (by Sea Otter).
since you asked =) SLAP TEAR in right shoulder. Huge as cyst formed in my joint because of the tear I had surgery March 2. Currently in a sling for 4-5 more weeks. Start rehab tonight for the next 14-18wks. Don't know when I'll be able to ride, but hopefully I canget on the bike sometime in the 8wk time frame for some easy riding.
Broken Rib Broke a rib a week ago Sunday @ Fontana Race #5 during pratice. Stacked it hard in the lower Rock Garden. Out for approx. 6-8 weeks. Sucks being down just as Day Light Savings time happened and riding time is ramping up! Thanks for checking in on us that are down and out Ken
Fractured elbow 2 Saturdays ago - I go see the doc again on Thursday...most likely at least another month or two before I'm riding again
Left MCL still strained. No tears. Just need to stay off bike according to the Doc, wear my knee brace and take my anti-inflammatories. Sure Doc. 2 of 3 not bad. Right knee ITB much better. Stretching and warm-up to prevent it from tightening up again is something I'll need to do. Guess I'm getting old. Knee issues of the past.., patellar tendons have improves with daily doses of MSM, Chondroitin and Glucosamine. Also taking Omega 3/Fish oil. I'm a walking drug store.
Quad Accident on 12/28 left me with a broke ankle and arm. 12 weeks non-weight bearing on leg followed up with PT. Hoping to ride again sometime in April/May timeframe.
Hang-nail on right thumb. Was very painful! Pulled it off, required a Band-Aid. Out for the rest of the year. Or, maybe I'll ride tomorrow if I can stop "sniffle-breathing" and see through all the tears. [-o-] I am so bad-ass! But seriously, get better everybody, and Hey! Let's be careful out there.... MBA
Iritis strikes again AKA Blurry Vision http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/rider-down/32870-blurry-vision.html
Launched off a water bar at San Juan Trail. Leg got really scratched up and it is starting to get stiff. Hopefully I won't be out long.
Collar bone still not mending doc says wait another 6 weeks. It has already been three and a half months since they screwed it back together. I am having my doubts if it is ever going to grow back. Not riding sucks. My dog is getting worn out.
I had rotator cuff repair surgery on 2/2 and have not been on the bike since. I hope to be doing easy mountain bike rides early May. I was just able to ditch the sling last week. Since my surgery I have been doing a lot of hiking, 15 miles with hills on Saturday and easy 10 milers on Sunday. I never thought I would enjoy hiking, but I am finding it's very relaxing and a great workout. I have thoughts of hiking a few times a month after I get back on the bike just to work the different muscles. I was so worried about gaining weight being off the bike and actually lost a few pounds. If anyone is interested in doing longer hikes (at least from now until early May) PM me. My hikes are fast paced cardio hikes but I will wait for anyone willing to go the distance. Teri
You are right, grasshopper. Hiking is a great way to stay in shape and see all those trails that we normally are going too fast to really see. It's also actually a better fat burning activity than biking as well. The good news is that you suffer very few crashes thus, you don't have to wear those darn helmets! Hike on! :bang:
This further sucks!!!!! I've been fighting with a cold for the last couple of days. Woke up this morning at 3:30 am with a raging sore thoat and as the morning has progressed my voice has lowered to where I could easily sing bass in a singing group. Looks like the cold has settled in my chest!. the thing that pisses me off most of all is that I will miss the Rwanda Ride.... I usually sweep on the SS... but not this year. So, in addition to the usual injuries that can take us out from riding, a cold will do the very same thing. the good news is that colds only last a week or so. I'll be ready for the STR campout in a couple of weeks.
Update Went to the doc yesterday and he said I need some physical therapy (aka legalized torture) to get range of movement and strength back in my arm. He said about 6 more weeks before I'm 100% and I'm going back for another x-ray in a couple weeks to check progress.
strained knee cap (stupid fireroad/mud crash). it hurts the most when i sleep. go figure...but i've been able to ride through it.
i had my feelings hurt when an unnamed STR member told me i ride like a fat toad. j/k healing vibes to all. all to familiar with the hated DL status. wish you all a speedy and full recovery!!!
Agree! I hope to do a few hikes a month once I get back on my bike. Bummed to miss the Rwanda ride tomorrow but I will be volunteering at Aid Station 8 in the morning and get to see all my friends who get to ride.
