I also use the PCS-9. One of the bolts that hold together the clamping mechanism broke and they sent me a new one right away so the customer service behind the stand is great as well.

There's the Sette ST-7 DLX with tray & tote bag for about $115 too. General construction seems pretty nice, only iffy thing is the swivel lock parts; they really should be aluminum instead of whatever plastic it is, to reduce wear. Still, nice to get the tray for tools / parts, and the bag to carry -which is nice and durable material. Every thing I've gotten from PP arrives the next day if ordered early enough.

I have the G3 and am not too crazy about it. It's unstable and it's sometimes finicky to close. I'd rather have a Park, but mine was a gift and one really shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. ;)

See if speckledtrout will sell you his G3 then he can get a Park. For $150 can't beat the G3. Performance should be running a 20% sale soon (gefore fathersday).

I'm sure Park stands are nice as well. Don't go the PVC route buy quality one time and be done with it.

I just got a brand new PCS-10 from Ebay for $150 shipped. I'm sure you can get it for as low as $130 shipped if you're lucky and nobody bids. You just gotta be patient. The seller's ID was vwrandy.

My G3 works fine you just have to make sure you have the bike over the leg, if you get it in between the legs it can get a little unstable and the back leg will lift up a tad but I have never had a problem with it tipping over.

Price point and Jensons both have great bike stands for a right at a hundred bucks.

PVC or Not - This cost me about $40 - invest in a good stand, PVC OK only for temp stand and not for a stable working stand.

Actually the stand is part of the bike...when he goes to ride it he just turns the stand upward and rides, then when he is done, he turns it downward like a kickstand....

So the part touching the ground goes on his shoulders with his arms through the openings?

I'd go for the Park tool also. I got a PCS-10 for a good deal at REI. And lately they've been having really good sales also. My friend has this brand that I'm not too familiar with and it had a screw clamp. It crapped out within a year.
