Any trail in any National Forest (e.g. Cleveland National Forest - Santiago/Luge, Blackstar, San Juan, etc.) is open for night riding, unless there are closures for other reasons, and not too much else other than what has been mentioned already. I hear that Laguna Coast is offering docent-led night rides once or twice a month.

As far as I know, everything in the Santa Monica's that's open to bikers is also open to night riding.

This is far from OC. But I have a friend who rides the Verdugo Mts at night. Must be okay.

There are signs at the Los Robles trailhead at the end of Moorepark Rd. that say the trails open at sunrise and close at sunset.

Pt. Mugu/Sycamore Canyon is an excellent night riding area with trails for all levels available for night riding.

    Whoops, didn't see your follow-up.

Here is a link to the forest service site. Los Padres, Angeles, San Bernardino, and Cleveland NFs will all have closures due to the recent fires, so check each site individually to see what's open.

    IE Night Riding

The IE has some places that fall into the technically-illegal-but-the-rangers-are-cool-with-it category and so as a result I will not post them.

If you want to know where you aren't supposed to ride so you don't accidently ride there send me a pm. 8-[

I've seen many people heading in to ride at night, but it's still posted that the trails close at sunset.

We have a fun loop in the Cowan Heights/Orange Park Acres area right off of Chapman and Jamboree in the OC...It's legal and very much like the Fully loop...don't know if the residence in the area would dig a big huge group going thru the trails that run up against their back yards since we tend to set the dogs off barking but if the groups were kept around 10 I know they wouldn't care since that is what we have been doing for years now...the route is about 7-10 miles long depending on the route you take and there are lots of bail out points if you need to head home early...good ride for interval training too...if you want more info about the route contact Switchback Cyclery...we do the ride on Tuesday nights as of right now.

Ok I've read all the posts and I have a couple of questions:

    1) Santiago Oaks (next to Irvine Regional Park) is CLOSED to night riding?

    2) If one were begin a ride at lets say Oaks and half way through the ride it began to get dark could one get a ticket from a park ranger upon exiting the trail even though you began riding while there was still light outside?

Just wanted to clarify my questions before I headed out and did anything stupid. Was thinking about riding Oaks today but I knew I read somewhere that it was illegal to night ride there.

Can we get a definite list on the legal night rides. I'm interested in night riding since I'm too lazy to wake up before 2pm to go ride anywhere, lol. And if anyone has any future night rides planned please post em up. Thanx

state and county parks close at sunset... it is usually up to the discretion of the ranger if they ticket or not. due to the recent problems in aliso and el moro, plan your ride to start AND end before sunset.

    Santiago Oaks legal at night?

Does anyone know if Santiago Oaks is legal to ride after dark? Thinking about posting a wed night ride starting from the Albertsons parking lot on corner of Jamboree and Chapman.

Santiago Oaks Like all OC parks (Whiting, Aliso, LCWP, Irvine, O'Neill) are closed after sunset.

You will get fined if caught. I got arrested and released for riding whiting at night about 6 years ago. The sheriff was on his bike in the park at the bottom of mustard. He had us get off our bikes, said we were "surrounded" and radioed to a cruiser who wrote us up and released us.

After threatening us with jail time and saying the could confiscating our bikes, The charge was something like misdemeanor trespassing or riding in county park after dark. $100 fine.
