I can't believe how bad the trails are these days. They're so dry, loose and blown out. This is what happened to me last night on my local trails:

I think I need to invest in shin guards or take up another sport ... Damn it hurts!!

Yikes Heal Up! That's a pretty bad digger! Shin guards are good but really suck in the hot weather. Did you get pedal SMACKED in the shin or attacked by a CACTUS?

Ouchie, shin lesions/contusions hurt horribly; minimal skin area. Bacitracin is your pal at the very least. Hope you've seen a Doc if it's deep enough to be concerned about infection.
I've had staph infection on my left shin from filleting it on old chutes from bygone years. Oh the PAIN.
Five years; (David Bowie) of blown out dry trails, we've got ......... Repeat.
    Wish you a whole/complete healing.

Well lucky you it looks like you only struck once. And it sounds like you are out at night which is the best time. The trails are soft with hard edges on the rain ruts. Soon some of those loose floaters will find their way into the ruts and the loose stuff will fill in behind. I like twilight to night rides because the temperature drops 30 degrees.
Happy night trails, heal up soon

I actually got pinned between a rock and my bike w my weight smashing my leg against said rock.

I was approaching a switchback and noticed a very LARGE sharp edge, looking right at it I steered right for it, bounced off of it and went down.

It was a dusk ride @da big hills. But I did do a Gravel Ride at night last week through Temecula's Valley - what a hoot!

I hit the like button, but I don't like seeing what happened to you or anybody. Brings a whole new definition to your handle now, ridinrox or now maybe crashinrox??? J.K. I understand what you mean about the trails though. They've been like this for a few years now. Two years ago I was dropping down to a stream crossing in Marshall Canyon. 4" of powder covered a flat rock that I didn't see and when I rolled over it, my front tire washed out and I high sided down the trail. Gave me 8 stitches in my elbow and a concussion that lasted a week, (see my sig). Heal up fast and take care. -Lloyd

Yeah, some of the trails around T-town are getting turned into powder.

    Big time!!

I rode tonight w the IVMTB group at the Plateau; we were all talking about how blown out the trails are and how sketchy they've become.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but I can't wait for winter and some rain.

I went out last night, I ended up doing a summersault down some big exposure. The trail: it was fine hard pack with lots of loose screed, I was climbing and missed some bed rock tech. Unfortunately I put my foot down on the outside but could only touch my toe. After that it was oh cr@p look at all those rocks. So I actually leaped to clear the rocks to maybe find a better landing place. I did but it was a long way down until I stopped. The bike was only 5 feet below the trail sitting in the rocks. We are both OK

Just got back from riding Rainbow Rim Trail, North Rim Grand Canyon. Daily thunder showers low 80's not in the mood to ride blown out dusty trails for awhile. Post road trip depression is here.

Maybe you're thinking of Jax or The Bike Shop Temecula.

Anyways, hope to see ya next month. The tacos they served last ride were divine.

I been thinking about riding that one for awhile. The temptation to drop in could be overwhelming. I sat at the top on the south rim on the day the park opened after Clinton had shut it down, it was sunset and the switchbacks with all those water bars, oh man that looked sweet. Commonsense took hold although I was all by myself. I looked around and saw nobody else, but I figured if somebody saw me, there is only one way out. Now I lament that I did not just take the drop till dark and then trudge back out. 15-20 minutes down would have suited me fine.
    Happy vista trails
