I rode it again today. I didn't need to check the map as often. I rode the main trail with only one or two deviations onto the single track that braids it. I made it up two of the three steep climbs, walking only on the one near the parking lot. And just as I thought I was making good time, I realized I'd spent an hour and a half on it.
Bruce, that's great... keep it up and your times will come down... one way to make things easier w/ climbs is trying some other trails with long climbs... it just makes mtbking more fun when its easier on your lungs.. for long climbs, try Monroe truck trail out in San Gabriels or even the Gilman peak in Chino Hills... Santiago Oaks is good for lots of up and down trails... Can't go wrong with Fully either but b/c the nature of the climbs in Fully are short, you never really get better if you only ride the loop.. there are SO MANY GOOD TRAILS in SCal to explore...
Bagging on the loop is great entertainment and I have to laugh that anyone really takes either side of the argument seriously. There are days I don't feel like a serious ride so I ride the neighbor streets here in Laguna. Just getting on the bike is a win.
Personally, I enjoy bagging on the people who make fun of loop. Besides, I know better than to make fun of the loop. I've read too many Rider Down threads to know not to mess with the MTB gods.
Looks as though Tommmy has been banned.... Oops! 8-[ . . . . . Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
tommmy is gone? Darn. I found his random chime ins entertaining. If I take a break from the Loop for more than 2 weeks I always take it easy coming back. The minute changes in terrain and train conditions get a lot of people. I almost fell victim yesterday.
Hi grego, and i agree with you, i rode floop on tuesday by myself and did a good personal time record, and rode it yesterday with a friend and we did it pretty good and he fell twice, and thats after he rode the floop like 4 times already, hey at least i had fun seeing all powdered like a donut !! jejeje
Thanks, Ii usually ride in the Santa Minica mountains with lots of long climbs. Tho one climb on Fully Loop that I couldn't do was right after crossing the street and I couldn't get any momentum to start the climb. I'm sure that with a little run in, I'd have made it.
The only hill I can think of that starts immediately after a street crossing is where the ghost bike is right now on Bastanchury. RIP that 19 year old rider from Anaheim.
thats where almost got hit waited for walk sign started crossing and a old guy in a new 7series bmw had to be doing 60 and slammed on brakes at the red and locked them up for a good 10 ft stopping about 2 feet from me
But that's not the typical Fully Loop route. Maybe Bruce is talking about when you're on Hiltscher trail and you cross Euclid. There's the drop and then the short uphill climb leading into Valley View Dr and then hitting Bastanchury.
