Yeah pretty much. It's a really fun road to drive. People who like to drive fast in modded cars come here (I used to) also teenagers come to the mountains to do drugs in a nice natural setting such as blackstar canyon. More fun and lesser chance of getting caught than in mom's basement. Hate biking on this road after the Luge or MS/HJ loop though. Be good to put a sidewalk in or a raised bike path .

As I drove to B* yesterday, as you turn right onto Santiago from the toll road, and it narrows down into one lane, I had some stupid kid come screaming up the right side of me, determined to get in front of me, even did a little "victory wiggle" - I assume it was that, or he was about to lose control...

...ironically, he made it in front of me (I would've let him in anyway...) - at - yup, you guessed it, the white bike.

Just a few hundred yards later I caught up with him as he was stuck behind traffic.

Guess the ghost bike didn't bother him icon_sad.gif

That makes about as much sense as saying that everyone that has ever smoked a cig will get lung cancer.

Yep, guess people are like bikes. Some say Specialized are "lame".

Well, some people are LAME. Sigh

Whether or not your points about meth impairment are valid, and how that relates to drug and traffic enforcement, may be a worthwhile discussion, but not in this thread. This is a thread about the loss of a fellow rider, and a young girl who (allegedly) committed multiple crimes leading to and following his death. I think that having a discussion here and now about the origins of meth and statements about some people's ability to drive while using it is disrespectful to the rider, his family, and the hundreds who were touched by this tragedy. I think that's a big part of the reason for the hostility.

Valid point. In my defense, I created a separate thread to report the story about the person being charged and was like I said before, randomly musing. Someone decided to merge the thread I created to this one. I meant no disrespect.

Plea deal for 11 years: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/-658890--.html

The DA sure took it seriously. That's pretty amazing. I read Bike Snob a lot, and it seems like the charge for killing someone with your car in NYC isn't even a ticket.

I'm sorry for Joey's friends and family that they have had to experience this.

    Very sad news.

the moment I read it was a hit-and-run, I thought to myself, it was probably DUI. Drunks figure they are better off with a hit-and-run charge than a DUI, especially if it is a second or third offense. I hope none of the forum members drives after drinking, even one beer. I also hope forum members report suspected drunk drivers.

Nothing can replace the loss of a loved one, but I'm glad Ms. Gonzales is getting what she deserves.

I'm all about second chances, and I hope 11 years (minus good behavior) is enough for her to really understand the impact of her mistake.

Glad to hear the driver got 11 out of a potential of 15 years. While that's not going to bring back Joey, hopefully a sentence as serious as that will help people realize there are consequences for carelessness and that they shouldn't drive distracted or under the influence.
